Re: Fulton Winch

TheSmiths, thanks for the info. I'm like you, I would either forget the drill or the battery would run out during checks. I have 6 poles with houses and gourds I manage. Yes, I could put the handle back on but it would be terribly slow and not fun. I've got enough stuff I haul out to the colony alre...

Re: Fulton Winch

You would think the manufacturers would have come out with a replacement winch to replace the K650 0101 but I have not seen it. I know the people that bought them really liked them. They said they were very smooth operating and didn't bounce houses or gourds when lowering.

Dale, that is true but nobody carries it anymore. They say it's not in stock.

Fulton Winch

Several years ago people were talking about the Fulton K650 0101 brake winch and how smooth they ran systems upand down poles compared to the standard D-L brake winch. I can't find that winch anywhere. Has Fulton gone out of business? Is there a replacement winch that works as well? You people still...

Re: Advice for Adding House to Gourd Setup?

I have a T14 and a NorthStar. Both are great houses but there is always maintenance to be done because they are wood. I'm still using the original wooden laminate post on the T14 that was in the T14 plan book. It's straight as an arrow and 13 years old but occasionally needs paint, as does the house...

I write down what I see. If there are 3 young in compartment or gourd I write that on the martin watch sheet. If they haveall fledged, then I write down 0 young, or really 0y.

Re: New for me: Summertime Hawks

Enlarging my compartments did not help on owl attacks but caging with 2x4 inch wire and using gourd rack owl guards did help. I also use 12 gauge wire prongs eight to ten inches long that cover each perching station on top of each pole which also deters owls or hawks from landing. Martins can still ...

Re: Pole upgrade?

Why not buy a multipurpose pole from PMCA. It would hold two of those nice looking Watersedge houses and four gourds under them. I have two Musselman houses on my three inch multipurpose pole with four excluder gourds under them. I'm using a winch instead of a rope system. The birds really like the ...

Re: Sevin dust

If possible sprinkle about a half teaspoon around the nest and underneath, not in the nest. I start my seven schedule when they start laying eggs. Then maybe one more time if I see mites. I use liquid seven on the outside of gourds if I see mites 0n outside especially around the lids.

I got my 2 inch soffit vents for my T14 at Lowes. I think around the gutter and roof shingle area.

Banded birds

MOA840 ASYM, banded in 2012 as a chick at my colony is using same gourd under T14 for the last 2 years to raise a family. I wonder if he can make the trip one more time so that I can see him again. Also, there is an ASYF with a orange band on right leg with no letters or numbers. It looks plastic. N...

I put my decoys on 10 ft. long pvc pipe and move them around the colony every few days. It helps.

Re: TO ALL YOU T-14 LANDLORDS

My T14 has been pretty much full the last 2 years and the six gourds below are always full. I have another wooden house, (Northstar) several metal houses, (Trio & Trendsetter), and plastic gourds, and the birds like them all. Everything has excluder or crescent openings.

Re: Trio Mini Castle Pole

Kyler, for years I've had problems with the stock 3 piece trio pole for my minicastle . I would always have extra stock sections to replace the bent ones. That got expensive. 5 yearsago I decided to reinforce these stock trio poles with pipe inside them. I used a 11/4 inch galvanized pipe inside the...

Re: converting trio round hole to conelyII SRE

I use the Trio crescent and excluder doors on my Trio houses. They keep 99% of the starlings out. They work great. The wing entrapment protector works well on the crescent openings but the excluder openings are to wide.

Re: 2" pole vs 3" pole

I just installed the 3 inch multipurpose pole a few weeks ago. If you can afford it I would go 3 inch. Pretty heavy duty. It looks great with two Trio Musselman houses. I've got 4 excluder gourds to go underneath. Cool setup.

Re: Trio and wing entrapment

I have the wing entrapment plastic arches on my trios. I screwed them on the inside of the crescent openings. You do need to make pilot holes in the plastic. They do not work on the excluder openings. The entrance is to wide. I haven't had any problems since installing these. If you have enlarged th...
