Re: Silent Sunset

Try uploading to PhotoBucket and linking it from your post. That seems to be the way most are doing.

Re: Martin feeding behavior.

Yes, thank you Sharon. I remembered seeing that video but couldn't recall. Oh the fun of the aging process. Must be a lot of dragonflies up there, that's what they feed the young the most in the last couple of weeks. There's a good video on dragonflies but it's close to an hour long. A good thing to...

Re: Martin feeding behavior.

Purple Martins can fly much higher than 100 feet.

Here's a link about how high insects fly: http://news.wisc.edu/curiosities-how-high-can-bugs-fly/

Re: s&k multi gourd rack 12?

Just had some angle iron laying around. Don't know what gauge it is, easy enough to bend but strong enough to support.

Might add, the rod to hang the gourds off of is 3/8 square aluminum.

Re: s&k multi gourd rack 12?

Just thought I would post a photo: Nothing wrong with the carrier at all until you add the second level. Then you need to add bracing (not a problem) from the first rack to the second. You'll notice I've added the bracing. I just couldn't keep the top level from sagging. You're starting with a squar...

Re: s&k multi gourd rack 12?

I have the hub on a 2 3/8 S&K round pole. The 2" square pole is a better idea since you can lower it during storms without the rack spinning. I've changed out to a winch and stainless steel cable instead of the rope and pulley. I'm fine with what I have where I'm at. My advice: If you have martins, ...

Re: Don't give up The perfect bird is out there to all the wannabes

Thanks Roger, I had to upload to photobucket before posting them on the forum. The gourds I use are S&K but I plan to purchase a couple of Troyer Horizontals to change things up. I had 7 pair last year. Hi Michael, the tree most prominent in the back is 20 some feet away from the rack. Another clust...

Re: Don't give up The perfect bird is out there to all the wannabes

Here is an aerial of my site with trees. The white rectangle is my property, the white circle is my gourd rack. The green outlines the trees in the area. Looks more open from above. http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt221/wild-bird-watching/house-google-maps.jpg?t=1453660332 Here is a look from the...

A good photo showing the whole site would be helpful. I think folks would like to see what your site looks like compared to theirs.

I miss the white map with small dots. Just a few dots now look like the whole state is covered. I'll get used to it though.

Had 2 Juncos and one White-crowned Sparrow today.
I've never had luck with bread, only the white millet. I do have 5 HOSP in the trap.
