Hi Laverne! Thanks for the response. I don't think anything is wrong with the entry, because they stick their necks out and look around.... :)... If they are not out by tomorrow, I'm going to lower the rack, and check things out. It will probably spook them, but surely they can fly by now... :) .......

30 Days Old?

I have one gourd that the babies are 30 days old. The two houses and one of the other gourds babies fledged at about 27/28 days old. What is the average age they usually fledge? The parents don't seem to be feeding them quite as often now, so maybe they will be fledging soon. They stay at the entry ...

Hi Sigundo! Glad to hear you have lots of Purple in your skies.... .... Like Laverne said, I think the new ones just have to get used to your wife. Maybe if she could go out there a little more often and talk to them, they will get to know her better, and will stop dive bombing her.... :) Hi ...

Fledgling Stuck In Predator Guard

It has been total mayhem here this morning!.... .....Both nests in my S&K houses have fledged, and one gourd has fledged... ..... Anyhoo, this morning I kept seeing two adults looking down one of my S&K predator guards. I thought they were just being nosy, but they kept coming back and...

Deborah, Glad to hear the babies are still chirping. Do you have a Wal-Mart there? Our local Wal-Mart sells crickets in the Sporting Goods section. They are a little expensive, ($3.50 per 100 if you don't have a container to put them in, or if you do bring your own container, they are $2.50). They a...

Hi Laverne: Yes, this is a nest of 5. There were 6, but one was a runt and I found it on the ground dead this past Saturday morning... :-( ... I believe the pair in this compartment are the one's from last year, so they would be ASY's this year. I will do my last nest check on them this Sunday, as t...

Is this normal?

Last year was my first year to have Martins. I had 1 1/2 pairs. The one pair raised one baby. Last year I noticed that it didn't come to the entrance hole to receive food till it was about 23/24 days old. This year I have 5 pair. One of the nests, the nestlings started coming to the entrance at 10 d...

RC, I had a runt in a batch of 6. I found it yesterday on the ground dead. I didn't discover the runt until Tuesday. I even started flinging a few crickets to the PM's to make sure they were getting enough food to feed the nestling's. I was hoping they would feed the runt, but apparently they didn't...
