Beak color change!

I have noticed the beak color change right before the babies(a couple of days) fledge. Has anybody else noticed this or is just my eye site?

I've had good luck with daisy model 822 pump up .22 cal., but you got to buy a good scope 32MM or larger like BSA or Bushnell sportman. Have great luck with Crosman's 2100 and 2200 pump ups. But again you got to buy a good scope if you have tired eyes. These guns run around 60 to 75 bucks regular pr...

I have removed all crescents (half Moons), I also had a scout get hung up and died in an crescent, but luckily I was able to save the PM behind him in the cavity. WDC's are the one's for me till I figure something out better! As far as starlings so far they have not pentrated a store brought WDC sre...

Haywood, I too have never seen PM's in my area on a bird bath/fountain. IMO the swallows drink and bath by skimming across a pond or lake and bounce off the water to take a bath. it you got blue birds and hollywood finches they sure will make use of it.

IMO anytime, but why have it up in the off season . The house you select hopefully comes with plugs. In off season keeping it plugged will keep the Dreaded Starlings and sparrows from establishing cavity territory. Some ideas in the off season? make some perches on top of the house, expand the compa...

IMO it a sparrow. Cow birds are the generation X of the bird world. Hee! Hee! Having fun without the responsiblity! I don't think they are killers though and besides IMO they would have no interest in a nest full of babies. Wasn't you trying to get rid of a Male sparrow a week or two ago?

IMO they probably got there first batch disrupted either by sparrow, starling, or bad batch, and relayed. I had this happen last year, but it wasn't guite that late, but not to worry still plenty of time left to fledge here is good old Okieland. just have to put up with the heat, flies, ant's, hawks...

IMO 99.99999% was a sparrow. They are mean and will sneak in while the martins are out and do their dirty work. IMO the only reason the E. sparrow are unmated is they haven't took over a cavity yet.

When I modified mine I put block off plates right if front of the entry hole. This prevented anything looking into or reaching into the nest cavity. Didn't bother the martins at all. Steve K. suggested it after owl had visited. It has worked so far. I also think it keeps the sun out and rain out som...

Well, you never mentioned what type of entry holes you have? This is important. If round I suspect the PM was killed by starlings? Do you see any signs of damage and was it a male or female? Second Martins usually use very little grass to make there nests (a least the ones in my area don't), Mostly ...

I have found that this year in my area has produced a larger amount of runts. Must of been the cool weather while egg laying/incubation was going on is the only explanation I can think of. Some was born at least 3 to 5 days after the first hatching I suspect. So, they were behind from the get go in ...

Does the runt really have a chance?

I have noticed at my colony that runt survival rates are next to nothing. It seems a large clutch the last baby born seems to never catch up or get left out of feeding alot, or gets bullied out. IMO most just get weaker and smaller and the rest seem to get twice as big in some cases. Some times thei...

Emotions I have loss for Sparrows and starlings

Wellllllll: after you experience perfectly healthy 5 day old baby PMs Several and ALL OF THEM) with HOLES pecked in their heads and their necks broke, you won't have no problems KILLING Sparrows (cause you are sick and p&##@! all in one emotion) I just remember the poor little defenseless babies tha...
