pulling a sparrow nest out periodically is NOT going to deter the sparrows...you have to terminate them! if you are serious about getting martins, this is a must.

thanks to everyone for your responses....early this evening, i lowered the house and there is a brand new egg IN THE NEST this time...guess she figured it out this morning! the other egg is still in the empty compartment, i'm gonna leave it alone for now, and wait to see how many eggs end up in the ...

the young female is very capable of raising a family this year...and for what it's worth, i noticed that the male seem to be doing more than his "fair share" of nest building with my pair too!

lower away! no problem....make sure you so it in the afternoon, or early evening when they tend to be "out and about".......i lower mine and inspect for different things at least once a day, many times the PM's show up and fly close (almost curious, but not upset)

i agree, if you now have a committed pair, i would quit playing the dawn song and let nature take over. i had just one ASY male for a period, and continued to play the dawn song, but now it appears he has a girlfriend, so i am going to quit playing the cd. good luck and congrats!!

Digger...i am pretty much in the same boat as you....had one nesting pair last year, right now i have 2 males hanging out and spending the night. i have been playing the dawn song about every other day/all day long....doesn't seem to bother my males, and lots of activity and visitors either way...do...
