although i totally understand your thought process behind feeding the hawk, i can't help but think it is a bit like feeding the bears at Yellowstone...and could just compound further problems with hawks..

WOW....i didn't realize they were already gathering at St Francis! guess i need to make it down there soon to check it out. My martin pair nested almost a full month earlier than they did last year, so i guess everything including roost and departure will be moved up a bit....

Deb, the four babies fledged last Sunday....when i got around that morning, i noticed that two of the babies were out learning to fly (from house to house,etc) but i had to go to work...when i got home later that day...all four babies were gone and so were mom and dad. they came back in that evening...

well, i sure hope they come back a few more times! it was very entertaining the first evening watching mom and dad trying to "round them all up"....LOL

babies fledged...now gone??

all four of my babies fledged Sunday....and were around the house off and on the rest of the day....mom and dad brought them back into the castle the first evening (sunday night).....then yesterday, NO SIGN of any of them! and none of them came back in last night??? i thought they usually stayed aro...

i have only one pair of martins at my site, they hatched 4 babies and two of them are 28 days old today, the other two hatched a day later. i have read that the babies normally fledge at about 28 days...how accurate is this, should i expect a couple of them to leave the nest today?? also, is there a...
