Re: Live Dawn Song

Yeah, I don't know the details either. When I heard the first one I was wondering if only one from the colony sang it, but then I could hear at least another two joined in. They were flying overhead, just like they do when feeding. Sometimes they would be close together and sometimes more spread out.

Re: New Landlord-where do they go?

That's great. If you start with ASY birds they are very good at drawing in a group of SY's when they come to town. Got to love it.

Re: What's the best hole to use

Not sure what a Muslum house is but you can buy plastic Conley ll entance plates from the PMCA. They would either pop rivet, screw or bolt over a round entrance hole. I have not done that so I'm not sure if the round hole needs to be enlarged or not. Maybe someone else will weigh in on that.

Re: Adding new housing

It won't bother them to enlarge the compartments at the end of the season. They will appreciate it next year.

Re: What's the best hole to use

I'm trying to understand. You had round holes to attract the Martins, but you also have a crescent and excluder holes that you can switch out the round ones for? If that is the case I would swap them out. More than likely that will stop the starlings. The Martins will figure them out.

Re: What's the best hole to use

Rob, I have the Conley ll entrances on my gourds and they have done well for me. I did see 1 starling breach the entrance this spring but it's mate could not get in. I will say others have had some issues with this entrance. There is an active thread right now titled How do I discourage starlings. Y...

Live Dawn Song

The dawn song started this morning at my colony at 5:00 on the nut. Sunrise here is at 6:17 central time. I obviously couldn't see him but he was flying above, sometimes directly overhead, sometimes further away. At one point he was mixing in chortles with a choppy dawn song. There were others in the...

They look great and I like the idea of them covering your winch. Good set up and sounds like they are definitely working.

Re: New predator guard

Lowe, the recommendation is to have the guard up of the ground for 2 feet. Do you think you have had good success with this guard going to the ground because it is a 12" pipe instead of an 8" pipe?

Stay patient and stay the course. It might not be him but you will succeed if you keep trying and learning from each event.

Re: how high should snake guards be?

I just put netting over my guards so i can't speak to experience. That being said I can't imagine they would get caught up in the netting with it being wrapped around the pole.

Just a thought, how about the netting above the guard as a second line of defense.

Re: Extension poles

I have no experience with the pole extension thought. It looks like you would have to add alot to make much difference. I agree on moving it away from the fence. Predators will use it to help them climb your pole, martins might realize that as well. It looks close to the tree to the left which will ...
