John thanks for mentioning the drape! I did not use that, I did feel that would freak them out. The shade did a good job covering the gourd by its self.

Thanks Emil that's good to know. I couldn't remember what was recommended when it was developed.

I have minor starling problems compared to other members here so I don't want to make it difficult for the birds.

I think the S&K shade certainly helps, however I feel it should be added before it is needed. Most if my gourds are S&K and I really like them so I don't want anyone thinking I am putting it down. I agree and I'll try! I know they are predatory but I've never seen them as birds that flock together. Most I've seen is a pair and a young one. Wonder if it's a family.
