Don, martins leaving your site for the season is not unusual at this time of the year. They should be congregating at staging areas and large roosts preparing for their trip to Brazil.

Tony, I am located a bit north of you. We are just over the MS/AL state line into TN. Our martins have been *in for the night* for about a half hour now. They begin to circle the yard about 5:00 pm and then give the call to *come in for the night*. I am not sure if yours might come in earlier or lat...

Chris, I think you are right in that height does not matter. We lower our racks often due to storms and bad weather. We have never lowered them to the ground, but lowering has NEVER made a difference. Martins still return to the same cavities with or without young in the nest.
