Re: New Trio Blank doors that are vented..

Yes, I have a bag of 2" and 1" vents that I bought online. The 1" have been installed over the open vent holes at the top of the Trio doors. I'm considering putting the 2" vents over the round entrance holes of some extra Trio doors I have. Then, when the weather gets too hot, I could switch them to...

Re: Hummingbird feeding into Fall info.

They're still moving through western KY (high today 57°f, low 41°f). RubyThroat.org is a good source of info for those of us in the east.

Re: New Trio Blank doors that are vented..

This is a great improvement for the blank Trio replacement doors, offering the martins more ventilation and landlords an easier way to open the doors! The upgraded doors are available now at; https://www.purplemartin.org/shop/product/trdb/blank-doors-for-trio-houses/ I was hoping for the louvered w...

Trio floor & blank door

I've modified a Trio M12K to have side entrances. I know I could use gourd tunnels/porches at the entrances but I'd prefer to keep the overall "Trio" look. I'm thinking I could use the outer perimeter (~19.25" x 5" section) of an old damaged Trio floor. That said, if anyone has a suitably sized port...

Re: New member from Wisconsin

Be sure shallow gourds (such as S&K Bo9 or Bo11) swing from side-to-side rather than front-to-back. You don't want eggs or nestlings to roll our during inclement weather.

Re: Hey Ray, Multi-House Question

Thank you for the info. We don't have storage space so our houses and gourds remain outside during the winter. I might look into a deck box for our gourds. I don't know why I'm just thinking of that.

Does the single bolt that holds the house to the wood ever work itself loose during bad storms?

Hey Ray, Multi-House Question

I ran across a post of yours from 2014 showing two Watersedge houses mounted to a dual hub on a single pole. I recently purchased a similar aluminum hub (6005T5 gauge 1/8" thick aluminum) and am trying to use it for two modified Trio M12Ks. Since I'm already out the money for this rack and I like to...

Re: Fulton Winch

No luck in the Facebook group. Fulton said 143001 would be the replacement for the K650s. It is rated for 1,000 lbs. They discontinued all brake winches rated for 600 lbs. I mentioned the Fulton K650 to a martin keeper and she said she had a K650 and it was a nice winch but it rusted after a few yea...

Re: Prognes Subis

I think there is more than one acceptable way to say it. Here is the link to a 2005 post about the pronunciation So how does one pronounce "Progne" anyway? . It's also the way I pronounce it. Well, try to pronounce it. I'm from KY so it probably sounds like it has additional syllables when it comes ...

I also have cliff, bank and tree swallows on my property, and a few bluebirds, but martins are my favorite.
Nice! I'd like to see some bank swallows nesting.

Re: Fulton Winch

We wouldn't remember to charge our drill and are sure to forget it when we head out to my FILs. Our setups are pretty lightweight so we need a smooth operating self-activating automatic brake winch with no minimum weight requirement. I've sent a message to Fulton to see if they have anything else su...

Re: Fulton Winch

I was wondering about this myself as we'd like to replace our ropes off-season. That particular winch is listed as discontinued on the manufacturers website.

Re: Project MartinRoost

I recently asked about this in another thread. Here is Joe's reply... The reason that it's not displaying on the map is that this component of the website is perennially bugged. We're working to resolve it, but it's going to require a complete redesign on the internal structure of the code. Bottom l...
