Mine showed up a week ago, which is about the same as last year. Don't worry they will show up.

They are back

What a great sight to see. I hope they figure out the SREH doors, as this is the first year i have tried them. A little nervous. I do have quite a lot of starlings in the area, so I figured why not try them. Hope you all have a great season!

Thanks for the info. I took my mss-12 house and converted it to the larger sizes with SREH. Just curious, do most pairs have their nests in the back 6x6 compartment in the enlarged compartment?

Thanks for the replies. The reason why I am nervous is because my previous house was 12-6x6 compartments and was very successful. I also didn't have SREH doors on that house and didn't have too much of a problem. Just worried that all the change would cause a problem. PS. Those SREH doors look reall...

Question on 6x6 versus 12x12 compartments

As some of you know I recently purchased the Grandpa trio house. My question is on compartment size. I had 6 mating pair last year and if I convert the house to 6-12x12 compartments does that limit how many Pairs I can have? Should I leave some in the 6x6 size? All have SREH doors on them, which wil...

Question on my new house MSS12

This may be a stupid question but I recently put my new house together and was wondering if I missed something. Is there anything to prevent the house from rotating slightly around the pole? It won't slide up and down until I pull on the rope(which is correct) but it does rotate side to side a littl...

Thanks for the input. I am replacing my old house, and was going to go for a trio house. My holes on my old house were round, but I was thinking about putting Serh on the new on. Is this a bad idea?

Housing Question

A couple of years ago I bought a cheep house from lowes(which has worked) but now I was wanting to upgrade and buy a nice one from this website. I have an established colany but was wanting something built better. Can I just put up a new house with no problem or will my martins be confused or will t...

To answer your questions: yes, it is plastic. Lowes still sells these houses. So I am guessing that the replacement SREH doors I just bought won't work? I did not buy the plates. Can I somehow use theses replacement doors? I did buy the nest box trap! If I convert the doors to SREH, will my PM have ...

I bought the cheap lowes version of the trio house. All 3 openings are connected to one flip up door. How do I make SREH since there is no door replacement that I know of. What trap do you recommend I buy, and where and how do I use it? Thanks in advance!

Starlings still attacking

My PM's have come back, only to be consistently attacked. The starling aren't even nesting in the house, just attacking. I can't shoot them, and there are just too many to trap. Tonight I was enjoying watching the Martins going in and out of the house and singing away, then I happened again, a starl...

I have a different perspective on this, gained from managing colonies in public parks. Starlings sitting on the house are not a direct threat to martins and won't scare them off at an established site, unless the starlings can enter your housing. Using some type of SREH will keep your martins safe....

General starling questions

My neighbor has a trio house that has been overtaken by starlings. It as been that way for 2 years. At the same time, I have had a successful Martin colony for the same period of time. This year I have noticed that more starlings are stopping by/ roosting on top of the house. What, (if any) problems...
