HELP

I have three late nest that starting hatching yesterday. We’re going to have 111 heat index in the days to come. I’ve made three very thin ice packs out of sandwich baggies and plan on putting them under the nest trays, will this help? If so I will make some more so I can rotate them out. Or am I be...

Re: Vents for T-14 question

Build it out of foam board. More insulation from the Texas heat and very light weight. My riding buddy Ken built one for this season and has 40-50 % occupancy. Also no structural problems due to Florida weathering. Speaking of DIY (do it yourself), I'm planning on a 24 gourd rack using a 21' galvan...

Re: my neighbor doesn't like my birds

That’s a very insensitive thing to say about somebody. I suffer from PTSD and to degrade someone with a mental illness “CRAZY PERSON” is just wrong. I can’t believe you said that!!

Re: Houses or gourds??

Great question, looking forward to the responses. The Indians used gourds with great success. I think either is fine.

Re: Third Year...NO Luck!

Yeah the house makes it easier for predators to get in. Not sure how people put guards on their poles when they’re anchored to a house.

Re: Third Year...NO Luck!

Awesome to hear that and congrats on your success. I remain encouraged by the large number martins very near by. I have pairs that circle overhead almost daily, but they never seem to come in for a close look. I have two decoys on the house and play the morning song at all hours. Short of putting o...

No pics, remove the egg before you have a bacterial problem or maggots etc.

Re: Repeating Sparrow trap?

Nope, never brought it in one time. I get rid off all the birds during rain, no problem with what you did though.
I’m sure I may have some rusted staples, storming out now, lol. Keep trapping!!!

Re: Repeating Sparrow trap?

I have it two feet off the ground on a wood platform. The trap doesn’t like wind it’s only fault, it will make the swing arm bob a little. I cut the top of the cage by the door so when I catch other birds and no sparrows are in it I can just pull it up and let them fly out. I’ve had great success wi...

Re: Repeating Sparrow trap?

I use a Blaine’s Repeater, I have caught over a hundred in it, in the last four years. A female bait bird will really bring them in. Sparrows like cover and hiding places, and they don’t like change, after you set it up don’t move it or change things around it. Good luck!!

Re: No Martin’s staying with me this year

So nothing happened too any of them three years ago? How many years have you had nesting pairs? Something had to of changed, or happened three years ago. Any sparrows or starlings taking over?
