Re: ANY KNOWN ROOSTS INDIANA/NORTH KENTUCKY/SOUTHWEST OHIO

Hey Flyin Lowe! I am still in the Carthage area, east of town. I was doing some research of my property and discovered it lies in an old unincorporated settlement called Sulphur Spring! No s on the end. I know your general area pretty good from time spent hunting waterfowl, fishing and hunting deer ...

ANY KNOWN ROOSTS INDIANA/NORTH KENTUCKY/SOUTHWEST OHIO

Are there any active known roosts in the Louisville area? Cincinatti area? Southern Indiana? All the info on the Roost Report is outdated.

Re: Attn Larry Melcher! Any Louisville roosts yet?

Thanks Scott! I appreciate your help. I haven't visited a roost site in quite some time, and would love to again. I am a little over 3 hours North of Louisville, so I can't really justify the drive down until I have confirmation of a roost location. I really enjoyed the roost on the river walk, that...

Attn Larry Melcher! Any Louisville roosts yet?

I was hoping to visit a roost in the Clarksville,IN/Louisville,KY area this season. My martins are about finished fledging, and it's getting quieter by the day. I was wondering if the roosts were forming yet?

Mourning Doves are a managed game species in many states. You must purchase a license, game bird habitat stamp, follow rules and bag limits,etc... So I wouldn't classify them with "being able to shoot" like EUST & HOSP. People also lawfully take Quail,Pheasants,Ducks,Geese,Grouse, and believe it or no...

That is amazing! Good job!
Just think how many nesting cavities you have made available, by eliminating so many competitors.

Wow JJ, that does seem early! I was working outside near my racks all day yesterday, I was listening & watching all day, no PM's yet.
My 1st Tree Swallow did show up, usually the scouts here are about 1 week behind the 1st Tree Swallow.
Have your TRES returned?

Yvonne, When I was trying to establish my colony, a pair of House Finch claimed a compartment and defended the whole area around it. I watched in horror as they ran off the 1st Martins to show interest in my housing. I kept pulling nest material until they finally gave up. I do believe they cost me ...

I have decent luck catching HOSP in a repeating trap using cracked corn and millet. My trap also seems to catch more HOSP when I place it near my chicken house, or on my rabbit hutch, places they are looking for food anyway. My nestbox trap is definitely the most productive one i have for catching H...

Good Luck Zag!
Last year I modified a Coates alum. house and added cork for insulation, 1 pair moved in and raised 5. There were empty THG's available too, so I felt real good about the pair choosing the modified house over the gourds.

Stan, I think Chris's statement of "hang the gourds up,leave them alone, and let nature take its course" is way more "over the top", than any of my truthful statements. Let's be real here, he has the gourds, they are paid for, he has Martins, but NOW he just wants to hang gourds and forget about them...

Chris, "I have decided to go back to my old martin caring ways of the old days, hang the gourds up and leave them alone and let nature take its coarse" Truth is, natures course is so screwed-up, without Purple Martin landlords, like yourself, this species has no chance. Natures course was determined...
