I live in NE Kansas and have had martins and TRES at this site for the last 8 years. The TRES have beat the martins back here every year by a week or two, but NOT this year, three martins beat the first TRES that I saw by 2 or 3 days. My martin count is up to around 30 to 35 now and their are probab...

It is a lot better day today than yesterday was here in NE Kansas, temperature at 7:00 AM was 31 degrees the sun is shining now and no wind, temperature is 40 supposedly going to mid 50's, as opposed to the snow flurries and wind yesterday. I am sure the asparagus probably froze last night, but what...

I finally got one male yesterday so I opened up one box in the 100 mile per hour wind (blew the ladder down once), he was sitting on the box this morning, so he might stay if he doesn't freeze, it is 40 degrees cooler than it was yesterday but no wind. TRES came Saturday, they are usually here 10 to...

Louise, I thought you had to eliminate one HOSP at a time, as at my place they are not in flocks during nesting season. They are either in pairs or the male by himself, and their is always one that seems to be a real pain to get rid of.Even though I would like to kill the whole flock at once I have ...

Emil, Sir, I have completely wired a few houses from the meter box back by myself, and I do know a little bit about fence chargers, as I use to use one to keep my angus bull where I wanted him, I know that I am "obviously" no expert on electricity by any means but I do know a little bit about it. Th...

Rob, I have not tried it, I really don't need it, as I live in a rural area where I can use a shotgun, but I have some friends in town who could use this "electic gizmo" as another method of control. I just wanted to see if anybody had tried this so I could learn from other peoples experiences. I th...

Well, I have not had any problems with S&S this winter, I guess because I only feed sunflower seeds and have the shotgun handy. I know though as soon as I decide to open the bird houses the ones up the road at the neighbors will be down here pronto and the war will be on!! I am trying out a new weap...

Bernie, I have several bird houses and I am getting ready to repair and build some more. Does this entrance slot keep bluebirds out also or do you know? It is probably to good to be true to keep HOSP out and let tree swallows and bluebirds enter, what the heck am I thinking!! Jimnks

Tony, excellent pictures, I wish I could take photos like that.It looks like you have strong poles for our Kansas wind, I think that is very important!!I have to climb the ladders also, or put up the scaffolding to put my houses up or take them down, but its worth it to keep them safe from the wind....
