Re: White pine straw vs Yellow pine straw

My martins are sophisticated aristocrats. They are pine straw aficionados. They expect their pine straw to be of the white variety. Their pine straw must be sustainably raised, organically grown, non GMO, gluten free, vine ripened, and hand selected at the peak of perfection. The pine straw must th...

I really dont think it makes too much of a difference what kind of pine straw you use. I use regular pine straw, and they don't seem to mind.

Re: Just got approved

Welcome to the forum and thanks for joining the Martin landlord community. They need all of us, and more. As others have said, I would expand the compartments in the house to make the compartments larger, and you will have a better chance of getting visitors to stay. Good luck to you.

You can buy the Troyer round rack kit to add on to your existing setup:

Yep, and Diane is very nice to deal with. I've bought equipment from her for years.

Re: Second Year Landlord...

I will add that to have a 100% reliable return to your site, you need to have around 10 pair. Not to say they won't return, but just keep in mind that the chance for them to return is not guaranteed.

Good luck to you.

Re: Hoping to be a new Landlord

Alvie,

Looking at your property in Google Earth, it looks like you have a lot of trees around the house, which woild no be very conducive to attracting martins. Do you have a lot of trees around your house?

Aren’t those 14’s proven attractive to the martins?
Depends a little where you live, and what the Martins in your area prefer and are used to. I never had much luck with my T14 (North East SC), even though the rest of the colony was nearly full.

Re: Luring ASY martins from an existing colony?

There is a good chance that the colony a mile a way will bleed some martins over in your direction. Just be patient and dont give up,, and it will happen eventually. Good luck to you.
