Hi Marcus,
I found as my colony grew, for me at least, it lost a lot of its small personal connection with the martins. Banding helped bring some of that back. It is really interesting to follow those banded birds over the years.
Good Luck this year!
Jack

Re: Leucistic Female
Hi Archer, Thank you for the ID. You would think that I would know by now, but have seen many posts online concerning female age, and Ive been wrong more times than I'm right. Thanks again! Hi Kyler, On more than one occasion at first glance I thought I had an ASY male and after closer consideration...

Leucistic Female
A couple of years ago I had a leucistic asy male at my site. Unfortunately last year he did not return. I assumed that the odds were I would not have another one. Well this year a leucistic female showed up, and she has paired up with a banded asy male. I am not good at all at determining age of the...

Housing and Pole for Sale
I have a 3 yr old trendsetter 12 for sale. This does not include the pole or winch. It has crescent entrances, with doors and nesting trays. $300.00 plus shipping. I am also selling my T14 that I built 9 years ago. It has nesting trays, owl guards, and aluminum arms to hang gourds from it as well. I...

Re: Leucistic Martin
Thanks to all for the replies! I was very excited last year when I spotted him in my colony, but also very disappointed that I didn't get a picture of him before the end of the year. Him and his mate raised and fledged 5 young last year, all of which appeared normal in color. He is already paired up...

Leucistic Martin
I have at my colony a leucistic martin. I first noticed him last year, but it was late in the season while they were feeding their young and didn't get an opportunity to get a picture of him. This year he came back and has claimed the same gourd. I may not get the opportunity to ever see another one...

Re: Excluder II Entrance
Ed, Matt & John, Thank you all for your expertise. I originally set them at 1/8" and after about 10 days they have either been reluctant to enter or haven't figured them out yet. I thought that maybe I had the porch too close. Given your input I will leave them at 1/8 above the porch and they should...

Excluder II Entrance
Anyone have any experience on how far the porch should be below the bottom of this style entrance. The usual 1/8" ?
Thanks

For Sale Trendsetter 12 - $275.00
I am selling a 3 year old trendsetter 12. It has nesting trays and I have raised the floor at the exterior entrances, up to within an 1/8" to help deter starlings. This does not include the pole, but anyone who has priced the trendsetter knows that even whith out the pole it is very reasonably price...

Re: 3 yr old Trendsetter 12 for sale
Hi John, I am just selling the House itself, I purchased the house by itself and installed it on an existing pole I had. It does come with the nesting trays though. Hope you have your systems up and ready it looks like with the weather we have coming after this week along with some early sightings w...

Hi Craig,
Definitely not giving up the landlord status. That particular rack is half gourds and then the trendsetter, and have decided to convert it to all gourds.
Good Luck This Year!

Runt & Late Nests
This year I had 2 late nests one that fledged around 8/1/14 which had 5 young in it, the second should fledge around 8/15/14, which has 4 young in it. One of the 5 young in the 8/1 nest was a runt, and when it came time for that nest to fledge I couldn't bring myself to leave the runt in there by hi...

I reported a banded martin from my colony that had not come from my site at the following address:
www.reportband.gov/‎
They should be able to give you the background of the bird, if it was banded legally.

Steve, I have used crickets that had been in the freezer for slightly over two years and the martins took them readily. Can't say for sure what nutritional loss was incurred though. I believe that crickets stored in a freezer that is NOT frost free would be better than those crickets stored in a fro...
