Re: Open or Keep Closed

flyin-lowe - how do you know when it is best to open the housing? I liked your answer to leave the PM closed-letting the TS get their nest started.
I have TS and sparrows checking my housing daily and have two blue bird houses hoping they will take to them.

signs to open house/gourds?

I have a new site with a T14 and Troyer round rack with 16 gourds ane the Dawn Song playing. I have seen scout adult males once, four days ago and now again today. The housings are up and closed due to the TS looking for a home. My question is how will I know when to open? When I do open should I op...

Re: new housing set up question

Thanks for all the input, and after reading the suggestions the round 16 Troyer gourd will be 25' from the T-14. Just waiting for the concrete to set.

Thanks again Jeff

Re: new housing set up question

Thanks for all the responses. I do have room to go up to 80' away from the existing T-14 and stay within the parameters as stated by this site. I just did not know if both poles placed too far apart would keep them from one or the other, or if it made any difference if they were closer together. tha...

new housing set up question

This is a new set up site to establish a PM colony. I just installed a T-14 with four hanging horizontal gourds. I also have a Troyer round rack with 16 gourds that I also want to put up. My question is how far apart should I place the Troyer gourd rack in relation to the T-14 ? Is there any advanta...

Re: new PM housing

This will be my first year for the new additions. this site has been a great help. Hoping it all works together and hopefully get a pair. It will be interesting to see if I get PM's which housing they will go for - the T-14 or the Troyer horizontals. it is interesting to see what others on this site...

Re: new PM housing

Thanks. Yes, trying to start a new colony. I have a home made PM house that uses removable (six) of the large metal juice cans as cavities, but a lot of lookers but no takers. It also was a little close to a tree. the newer houses will be 40' away from that tree. Been reading this website and have g...

new PM housing

Hello all, not sure if this attachment will work, but if it does this is my new home made T-14. I might have over done it with the perches. I am also adding a Troyer 16 horizontal gourd rack that Peggy from Louisville KY graciously donated to the PM cause. Thanks Peggy! Hopefully all the snow melts ...

Re: Kentucky purple martin landlords

Hi Peggy,

Louisville is not that far for me to pick up the PM equipment. I would certainly enjoy adding to my existing colony.

Can you call me 513-738-3359 please?

Thanks Jeff

Re: Kentucky purple martin landlords

Hi Peggy,

I have many PM's around me and have a T14 with 4 Troyer horizontal gourds with tunnels.
I would be interested in your equipment if you so desire.

Thanks Jeff

Re: tunnels or no tunnels?

Just thought of another question. I do not have any nesting PM's but there are PM's close by.

When should I put up my T-14 house? I have read to wait until after the mature PM's arrive or should put it up when I see the first signs of arrival?

Thanks again
Jeff

tunnels or no tunnels?

Hi everyone, I built a T-14 house with large porches and dowels rods attached running up and down the outside edges of the porches to keep out owls. . The openings are round holes and want to purchase the starling resistant openings. My questions is - should I purchase the starling resistant tunnels...

Re: starling resistant tunnels?

Thanks for all the replies - I do believe there are enough starlings around that it may cause an issue. I was thinking of getting the Ultimate Clinger Tunnel that are 6.5" wide and 4.25" deep 4" tall. The floors have traction inside and out. Not to promote this company but thought I would get them f...

put up new house now or wait?

Finished the T14 house and was wondering is there any advantage to putting it up now just to take in down in Sept?

Should the nest cavities be painted black or just leave the bare pine wood?

Re: make wood house or purchase gourd?

thanks again to all the replies, I just went ahead and made a T-14 out of 1" pine, I guess the idea/fun of making one got the better of me. Is it true - did i read somewhere the inside of the compartments should be dark? Should I paint the inside black? Should i mount the T-14 now or wait till sprin...

Re: make wood house or purchase gourd?

thanks for all the input. I think i am leaning toward gourds for less weight

I am now considering Troyer horizontal gourds with the ring rack.

Any suggestions to which is better horizontal or vertical gourds?
