Re: Help with Purple Martin House Location (New)
Howdy! I personally think all of the locations are great potential sites. As mentioned above, you should consider how visible from your house you'd like the colony to be. Another option would be to place housing at multiple of these locations. Perhaps one at 230 and one at 630, or any combination re...

Re: Landloards in Cedar Creek or Bastrop Texas area
I am not in the Bastrop Area but I know there are LOTS of martins in that area. We are located in West Texas and our birds should start arriving in late January/early Feb. Assuming you have an ideal location for your housing, some martins may visit during there migration back to their sites. Most of...

Re: Gourd Limit for 2" Square Aluminum Pole
Howdy! I am also wondering the same about 18 gourds on a 2in pole. We are going to add on to our 6 existing gourds to make it 18 but are concerned about the 2in pole in high wind situations.

Re: 2” Square Troyer Pole Question
Update:
We placed a piece of duck tape on all four sides of the top of the ground stake. It reduced the movement tremendously. There is still some very slight movement at the joint of the 2 pole pieces but is expected as Dean said earlier.

Re: 2” Square Troyer Pole Question
SSMartin, Still have my one ASY pair and I believe 2-3 SY birds. My neighbors have 6 pair so there are always birds visiting and is hard to tell if they are gonna nest here or not. There has been more SY birds slowly showing up to our neighborhood. Luckily it is easy for me to spot my ASY pair becau...

Re: 2” Square Troyer Pole Question
Did you push your stake into the concrete then fill up the stake to the top with concrete? Mine doesn't move at all in the wind with 18 gourds SSMartin, Yes we pushed the stake I to the concrete and filled it to the top. Hole was approximately 32” deep by 12” wide, 8” of gravel in the bottom. The s...

2” Square Troyer Pole Question
Sorry for all the newbie questions, but I noticed today that my 6 unit gourd rack sways slightly in the wind. It seems that the pole moves ever so slightly on the ground stake and is exaggerated near the top of the pole. Is this a typical or is the tolerance on my ground stake slightly off? It doesn...

New Landlord
Howdy, I am new to purple martins but decided to become a landlord approximately 2 weeks ago. I installed a Troyer Horizontal 6 gourd rack in my backyard and currently have one ASY pair staying every night. In addition to this pair, we have one other martin that spends the night in a different gourd...
