Re: Something has been going on in one of my rooms....
Hi T bird. Those are some great pics. Just remeber to not do nest checks when the babies are 20 days old or older. After 20 days of age, you run the risk of the babies trying to fledge too early and it is very hard to get them to stay in a cavity once they have jumped out. Take a look on the PMCA w...

Re: Something has been going on in one of my rooms....

Well, 2 eggs quickly turned to 4. And after checking the nest just a couple of days ago to still find eggs, I checked again today, and wouldn’t you know?
Very exciting times!

Re: Something has been going on in one of my rooms....
Well I guess that's what happens when you're told to stay inside. On a side note. My first ever pair was a real trip. The stuff I found in their nest as nesting material was crazy. They had a zip tie, a twisty tie, a ticket stub, and all kinds of weird stuff. Your nest in the photo reminded m...

I’m not sure what you are referring to. Do you mind providing some more information on this?Brad Biddle wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 3:16 pmSounds like a good reason to put some of the window treatments on there that are designed to prevent that

THUNK! OH NO!
I was sitting in my living room, watching my Purple Martin house, and noticed a martin land, and go into one of the cavities. A few moments later, I watched him come out of the cavity and take flight....Flew right into one of my windows. I heard a loud “Thunk”, so I went outside. Saw a mark with fea...

Re: New Landlord Anxiety
Have you got the martins used to you yet? By this time, I would have gone outside talking to the martins and gotten them used to me walking to within the closest corner of your pool's shallow end without flying away. While I talk to them, they chatter back at me. By the middle of the season, I can ...

Re: Finally!
Way to go T. I've seen a lot of housing poolside and for some reason they are usually full. I think you have a great chance of having a pair or two this year then it will Multiply every year after that. I'm sure you read my stories. 5 years in the making starting with a pair my 2nd year, two pair m...

Re: Finally!

That greenery in the first pic looks like it’s right on top of the house, but in reality its about 25’ away.
Thanks everyone for your replies! I’m very excited, and hope they show back up tonight/tomorrow.

Re: Help me identify a nest inside my new house...
Hey T-Bird, The advise everyone has given you is right on.! I have a Repeater Trap for Starlings and one for Sparrows. I keep a 5 gallon bucket close by the traps and just drown the little rats when I catch one. I used to pull their heads off, but that got a little messy on a few occasions so now I...

Re: Help me identify a nest inside my new house...
I know how this will sound, but this is how it is........ 1. Hold sparrow in left hand with head sticking out 2. Grab head and neck between thumb and forefinger. 3. Pinch neck firmly with thumb and twist head at the same time. Done. 4. Deposit in nearest rubbish receptacle. Do not just remove nest a...

Re: Help me identify a nest inside my new house...
Definitely partial sparrow nest, feathers, paper ,varied materials etc. remove it immediately and kill the sparrow. I have a cavity trap. I assume that I should take the nest tray out and put the trap in? I hate to sound stupid, but this is my first attempt and being a martin landlord. If I trap it,...
