Re: Martin Head Games

your right Spiderman, finished reassembling my seesaw trap today so
tomorrow I will set it up again with some kind of snack for them. I'm
hoping I can eliminate most just to make it a little easier for the
Martins.

Re: Martin Head Games

8) a dozen or so martin visitors yesterday ,some asy and sy ,prompted me to open all house cavities. i observed some asy entering a conley2 door for the 1st time. The sy couple, back in their south gourd, started adding to the prenesting material yesterday morning. took me too many shots, but I final...

Re: Martin Head Games

Took my repeating bait trap(see-saw type) apart yesterday. I have read not to use green coated wire material . i used 1/2 x 1/2 mesh green coated of course . Changing it over today. a pair of SY in a Troyer horizontal gourd pointing south have spent 3 nights. a single male SY has spent at least 1 ni...

Re: Martin Head Games

Been trying to shoot these things for a month and a half. Hun stopped
feeding all birds 2 weeks ago. I built a trap from plans I got on this site
which has not caught a 100 birds in a day.

Re: Martin Head Games

i agree with you Fuzzmeister, so does my wife and she feeds them. Since this am a SY pair seem to have gotten cozy in 1 of the gourds. So far 4 others have done some cavity inspections, 2 seem to be ASY males. This all started at todays sunrise or a little later. They have been flying here for the p...

Martin Head Games

I think a new batch of Martins have landed in my area the last week. They seem to be interested in my new 11 cavity setup. The problem is a male sparrow has decided to try to defend 11 cavities. The Martins high pitch squeak on approach makes the sparrow leave his cavity on a sparrow filled S&S red ...

Female ASY sightings today

Irene and I heard them today before we saw them. 2 ASY females flew around the new house several times, then started to fly between my royal palms and sneak up on the S&K barn full off sparrows. They seemed to just want to piss the sparrows off, threatening them. A couple crows bullied starlings by ...

1st visitor on March 19

8) Wifey pulling weeds the other day heard the chatter, looked towards the new Martin house and spots a male SY checking out a house cavity so naturally I did not get to see him she shouted to me at the side yard and I guess he flew off. after an hour of waiting 3 approaching from the north banked t...

Re: Purple Martin’s and Starlings

Rodger: I saw a repeating trap video on u tube work similar to yours, so cool! well I decided to build a wire fence bending fixture first, then I will tackle the repeating trap. I can also use a few new blue crab traps because mine are so worn out and rusted. Sounds like you live a fulfilling life. ...

Re: added Troyer Horizontals

Whippy, i can see that Sparrow will poke holes with that jack hammer thick short beak of theirs. Next project is a repeating trap for them. Saw a neat 1 with a seesaw on you tube. Wifey already noticed less songbirds at her bird bath and feeder since they appear to dominate them. I drove by my neigh...

Re: added Troyer Horizontals

<t>Thanks Deancamp, I don't play the dawn song yet, I have seen some of what I think are Martins doing flybys up and down my canal without landing. Probably my neighbors Martins. I was wondering if Martins could be afraid of my across the canal neighbors plastic owls.<br/> The sparrows have built th...

Re: added Troyer Horizontals

Thanks Whippy and Flyin-Lowe: I do like these gourds, pretty big and realistic looking. I am past the nesting time for the Sparrows here, probably should be eliminating more. My Honey feeds them and they have their own house. I do have a few Starlings around, shot a couple, a few more to go. I am no...
