Re: Birds that looks and behave like Martins

I have noticed with cool front in area that birds look like purple martins and behave and skim water like Martins do. They look like them as well. Can anybody tell me what kind of birds are they. Noticed 10-14-10 and I thought barn sallows would migrate to South America. When it’s hot out you don’t ...

Re: New landlord

Hi Steve, 16 cavities is plenty to start with. Some colonies do start with 1 pair while others such as myself managed to attract 2 pairs my first season. I have read where others have been fortunate enough to get as many as 7 pairs their first season but, I am guessing that was the result of a colo...

Re: New landlord

Steve, I put the bed and breakfast up in the spring when the martins start showing up, around the middle of march. I have eggshell, oyster shell, meal worms, and pine straw all in a 10x21 inch black seed tray with slots in the bottom for drainage. I microwave the chicken egg shells for around a min...

Only have one side of tree line and all opposite sides are open. Fly areas open two areas around house . Cannot reach gourds unless climbing on ladder

Re: New landlord

Just purchased gourds and wondering if hang up and see if any visitors stop on there way back to South America for resting a night or so. And if so, do I have to add nesting material? First year and don't know much about anything when it comes to migration habits. Any information would be great,
