Re: First Arrival

I am new to watching for the early arrivals, but it does seem that they are coming back early this year. I have reviewed the Scout reports for years past so maybe it's just my imagination. But if they show up too early here in NC we are not out of the woods for winter yet. I may be learning to do so...

Re: New Landlord-where do they go?

Did a nest check today. Great news my girls have been busy, two gourds have 5 eggs each. Two other gourds have nests with green leaves so egg laying will start soon! Very good news.

Re: New Landlord-where do they go?

UPDATE UPDATE, UPDATE! This morning as I was sitting outside drinking my morning coffee, I was watching my birds come and go. Then all of a sudden about 6 new birds showed. I know it was 6 more cause the first 6 were all on/inside the gourds. Then the sky erupted with PMs! I think this new batch is...

Re: New Landlord-where do they go?

Added another pair since I posted last. So this morning it seemed there were 8 birds all total. Wow - Great results for your first year! Any details on what you've done to attract new PMs? Where is your PM housing located vs. your house? What type of housing? Are you playing Dawnsong? If yes, what ...

Re: Newbie from NC

Thanks for the replies. Everything is coming along nicely. I posted an update on another thread. I now have three pair building nests and for this season I should be okay on the rooms. My brother builds a 16 gourd rack he got the plans for. We make them out of Cypress lunmber. So they should last my...

New Landlord-where do they go?

This is my first year so naturally I have tons of questions and lots to learn. 1) Where do the Martins go around noon? I have three pair that have been nest building for the last 3 days. But around noon they go somewhere and don't show up till late in the afternoon. Then they resume their nest build...

Re: Newbie from NC

Update. Nest building has begun. I have been watching the first pair that arrived and they are building a nest. Watched both collecting materials, then while they were on lunch break I did a nest check. Lowered my rack and sure enough they are building a nest. Even better news two more pair have sho...

Re: Newbie from NC

GREAT NEWS! I went out this morning and I now have 5 birds 3 male and two females. Looks like they may stay cause they will fly high then come right back and the three males seem to have chosen a gourd they like. They keep going to the same one! Thanks for everyone's replies. Very excited to say the...

Newbie from NC

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and trying to get a colony started this year. I live in Central NC (Rockingham, NC) and have tried to have martins for years without success. Last year I took an old aluminum box down (that had been up for years) and just threw up four gourds. Well had lots of v...
