Protection Against a Falling Gourd Rack Or Martin House
Dead Rod Protection Do you raise and lower your martin cavities? Do you stand or bend over underneath the heavy rack of cavities during this operation? If so you are violating one of the most important safety rules in rigging, working under a suspended load. This is a "Thou Shalt Not". Most all of u...

Re: The Lewis Mod
Appreciate your saying, Brad; I knew it had to be something like that, as dedicated as you are. Those devil starlings are something! Wish I could develop a bit more appreciation for them. You know, they are really powerful flyers. Seem to be able to fly straight up from a standing start, physically ...

Re: 90 degree tunnels
Travis, I loved how the Naturelines looked with the 90-degree mitered elbow. You just need a cut off saw that can make a cut through 3" pipe in one sweep so the saw cut is square so it will mate together nicely to the adjoining piece of 3' pipe. Listen to Brad, he knows what he is doing! Honestly th...

Re: The Lewis Mod
People are saying their Conley 2’s are not being violated to any degree by starlings. Brad, your experience goes totally against that. I must ask, “Why did you let starlings make such a deep ingress into your very successful martin colony in the first place?” I mean you can shoot can’t you, on your ...

Uh...yeah...hanging as we speak, but devised, built and first offered about 17 years ago: pipegdhunga.jpg See Natureline at bottom of picture. Has a 90-degree mitered elbow, entrance is a crescent with exterior traction porch. Has an exit aid also, a small 3/8" dia pvc pipe glued inside next to the ...

Sorry I was gone so long, Malcom, but I do remember when you contacted me way back then. I was just in a rough patch.

Much appreciation to all you guys! I believe I get it now. And thanks for pointing out how to find the reading info. I should have used the search bar, sorry!
Slick floor at elevation equal to the bottom of the crescent and the crescent has depth is what it boils down to.

Re: The Lewis Mod
I don't have an old issue of the PMCA publication that shows your modification, Lewis. Brad, from the picture I can't see for sure how you made those pieces of high density PE that you fastened to the front of your Conley 2's. I expect there are others who are wondering, so if I were to decide I wan...

Could it be Troyer is passing them off to PMCA, because I got mine from PMCA?

Re: Next Great Rack...And I Ain't Talking Marilyn's
Making my own comment here: No...won't work! Will have too much infighting between males with those gourds all pointed inward. They have to point outward, but could be set back a bit toward the center from the edge of the hawk and owl resistant wire grid that is wrapped around the hoops of the wheel...

Re: Pipe Gourd
Good name for it, Brad! Bazooka Gourd... Nah, saw one martin today, and it never visited. Still waiting not patiently though. Probably wouldn't be so bad if I could leave the farm, but I don't want to leave the because I might buy the farm. We don't have much Corona here; Five I guess it is, ...

Re: The Lewis Mod
Are you saying you've had issues with the Troyer tunnels/porches splitting? Brad asked the above question. Troyer Horizontals that I bought this year about every fourth one had a long split in it. I don't think they are going to ever fall off because the push pins hold them on real good. They are j...

Re: The Lewis Mod
After returning from my 15-year hiatus and seeing the Conley, I said to self, self, that doesn't look very starling resistant! You confirmed that for me, Brad. Now, my other concerns: Why did the PMCA stick a patented entrance on their SG, after all the knowledge site operators just hand over to the...

Next Great Rack...And I Ain't Talking Marilyn's
The Abare Rack, a great rack, arms that radiate from the center making it easy to hang any gourd. The Gemini Rack...great rack, but a little difficult to erect two-point dangle gourds except for the Troyer Horizontal which has a hanger that is made for it. My idea of a great rack, think wagon wheel,...

Re: Pipe Gourd
I think it a reasonable facsimile of a Troyer Horizontal. The challenge to making it is making a square cut of the 8" diameter pipe. I finally figured out how. You buy a wide roll of gasket material and you tightly wrap the pipe with one layer of it, get your pencil out and scribe your saw cut line ...

Re: 2” Square Troyer Pole Question
Broken record here, but one should fill any of these commercial multi-piece poles with a soupy mix of mortar mix (concrete without the aggregate). Can be done after installation too, but much easier on initial installation.
