Re: Persistent sparrows

I bought a nice pellet gun and at 50 yards it's deadly. I found out the hard way, if you don't have a good shot, a good rest or just shaking from the night before, don't shoot! They go from "who cares" to "I know and I see you" from one missed shot.

Re: An Eastern Kingbird.....

Bird,

Thanks for the priceless info ......and the bright passion/understanding you have for the birds you live with.

Question, do you "flip" close to the Martin houses? If so, does it create a problem with bring these birds to the site? Thanks again

Re: An Eastern Kingbird.....

Thanks all and this is why I like this forum! have you ever seen this before or should I quit drinking? Don't be a quitter! Hahaha We had an issue with a king bird our first year. Luckily it only stayed for a couple days but it was using the Martin rack to perch on, the Martins tried chasing it away...

Re: An Eastern Kingbird.....

Now I have 3 and I hope they'll have betters things to do. When the martins would land on the rack, he would go right up there and chase them or try to follow them into the gourd. I hope they play nice ...................... Side note not worthy of a new thread........I was watching my two ma...

He sits all over the place then darts out for a meal and the back. He tries to enter the gourds but I don't think he can. Very pretty and fun to watch but he's pushing his luck....... "The Kingbird can stay with them turn for turn until they decide to quit chasing." the chase is so fast that ...

Re: They are here!

Congrats Brett. The first few years of being a new landlord are critical. I'm sure you will be fine, but now is when you do everything to make their stay safe and healthy. You will be playing the numbers game in the years ahead. 10-15% of the babies will come back to your new colony each year. Best...

Re: My have to take the housing down this season

One thing we all have in common is helping the wildlife that are loosing habitat every second, of every day. When I was young, trapping fur was something most country males did to make money. Now, fur is taboo (also males lol) and I have shot more raccoons with distemper in a day than I have in 30 y...

Re: Up to 5 pairs now.. video

The Chirpy Nests are occupied now. The martins seem to love them (especially me). But the house and gourds are still loved by martins lol Shot this video around noon today: https://youtu.be/1GnKrXPWK90 Did you use the mulched pine needles in the Chirpy Nests? I would love to have that many this yea...

If you look at the first pic, you can see that it's hinged at the bottom with a large bolt or threaded rod.

I would hate to have a cable snap when winching.......you'll see more birds than ever before

Re: I present to you ---- Super Marti

That fishing line will las a couple months at best. I use a 25 lb mono fish leader for a whirly-gig and was digging it out of the pond all the time. I replaced it with a 40 lb steel leader and it has lasted one season and still ticking I like the fiberglass rod idea....glad it has already paid off!

Thanks white-out. I have some vinyl siding and will approach it similarly.
Brent
That vinyl siding may be better....just a slight breeze will make the wings move and appear more real.

I made a couple out of soffit panels by drawing them out as one piece. Tin snip them out, paint them black and screw them onto the back of the decoy. You can bend the wings however you like.

I have some SY males. I used to watch for them to sing but it is just too many birds now I can't tell who is making what sounds. I know they are SY males because they are claiming new gourds I put up and I see the new females going in with them. Have 55 cavities now but I am waiting for a new gourd...

Well good for you! I think having the ability to "nip in the bud" a bad/misunderstood comment or, fat out false, is a courtesy that all deserve. Also, if it effects your investment directly...10X more. As you say "He is free to share his opinion" well then share it! I thought many things here are sh...
