Put it up and play the dawn song, you never can tell. There could have been a landlord in your area that passed away and no one is takeing care of the old site. Had it happen here this year, two of my landlords passed away over the winter and one moved out west. The only thing keeping all of them ma...

I do freeze mine. I have zipplock bags full of mealworms. The thing is that I use my frozen mealworms and crickets for my home made suet. I don't see why they won't work for the martins, I put out frozen mealworms in the feeder for the Blue jays, nuthatchs, chickadees and all of my woodpeckers and t...

Ray
I have been feeding mealworms for years now thanks to my Blue Birds. The parents will crush the worms in there beaks before taking them to the young.

When hand feeding jumpers I always clip the head off the worm just to be safe.

the West Nile Virus did hit the jays hard all over the US. The good part is that they are making a come back. There was a time that I did not like them any were around my feeders or even in the yard. About four years ago I watch a jay fly down and kill and eat a house sparrow. Since then I have seen...

Thats what it is , the weather. When you have a mild winter there is no need for the birds to come down from up north or for the ones that are around to come to the feeders so much.

You Might Be A

If you ever had to remove natural gourds from the bathtub to take a bath, you might be a purpleneck. If you have ever taken a shower with natural gourds, you might be a purpleneck. If you have more natural gourds hanging from your living room ceiling than paintings on the wall, you might be a purple...

Kathy thank you for the advice. I don't have a lot of room out by the pine tree and the bittersweet and thats the last thing I need is for the net to get tangled in the tree. The way the sparrows fly up and over and around the house they will not have hardly any time what so ever to avoid the net. I...

Trapping Sparrows Part One

Like most on here I trap sparrows using nest box, repeating and walk in traps. Unlike most I release mine back to nature ( through the rear end of a falcon ). The flock of sparrows at my feeders this year is unreal. Iv trapped little over a 100 out of about 350+. Now the rest just will not have anyt...

Talk about over kill  . I love it. I have two SS24 and one T-14 each one has 1/4 yard of concrete. Two years ago we had 96mph strait line winds. There were 100 year old oaks and hackberry trees down and snapped in half all over the place. The best part was my poles were still standing the next...

I trained my when they had young to feed. It works a lot better and faster when theres mouths to feed.

And yes the fake rubber hand is what I used for the bluebirds and chickadees.
