Re: New hopeful landlord
Mary welcome and good luck! I’m gonna second mr.toms opinion. If you are seeing them that early in the morning then I’m gonna gamble you’ve simply been missing them come in to roost at night . I feel like they are staying. They get out and visit other birds but usually a bit later in the morning. Si...

Re: Altering gourds
Hi there hobbie ,the rain will follow the wires down to the hole and then weep into the gourd dripping on the birds. Boy are they gonna be mad! I don’t have all the pics anymore. But if you will look at the top of the page and then go to page 8 you will find a complete process of how to “rain proof”...

Re: First bird of the season
Laura ,that is a sy male. Note the couple of feathers on the breast. Sy males will have one ,two, three single male feathers of the purple color. Sometimes down low towards the tail, sometimes a couple scattered on the breast, the rest of the body looking like a female. When he returns next year he sho...

Re: Low temps that they can surivive
Hey there Lowe. For my 2cents also....... I’m with randy on his opinion. Your birds have been feeding well and they have somewhere to escape direct elements. In times of really cold they will bundle together several in the same gourd,etc....for warmth. I witnessed that here in the south during our r...

Itwalsh ,I get up and am out in the dark everyday seven days a week. I hear my martins every morning. Yes you are without doubt hearing martins doing their little morning chirping wake up talk in the houses. They are sneaking in at dark and you just been missing them. Go watch the sky from an hour b...

Re: Central louisiana
Good idea whippy. Some of em just seem to do their own thing . Some are in resting before the main flurry.some evenings you see em all and some not. I’ll try that in the next few days if I can catch em when they all seem to be out at the same time. So if I’ve got 4-6 weeks left for arrivals and I wo...

Re: Central louisiana
At this point all the birds I see seem to be ASY birds . I was thinking I remember last season SY birds arriving all the way into and beyond the middle of April. I should’ve had more gourds done. I have 32. We’ll just have to wing it this year and I’ll have another satellite rack for next season and...

Central louisiana
Well it seems my bird count is slowly climbing! It seems that my attempts to count is telling me something around 30-33 birds . I can’t be sure it’s such a flurry when they all dive in,and goog luck trying to count em all swirling around overhead just prior to coming in also. But I do think I’m righ...

Hey Gregory, X2. With Conrad on the kroil ....good penetrating stuff will loosen anything! I would if you can as someone else said try to get the rack down checking the travel of the hub, apply the krill and try to force a dab of grease into the pulley on the axle. That oil is in an orangish looking ...

Re: New arrivals in CENTRAL LOUISIANA. !
After ice update........so after the ice I think I started out with like 6 birds, then all of a sudden there were 9. That rolled on a few days and for the last few days there has been 13-14 . So this evening I went out to sit and watch and my best guess is 20-24,at least 20 no less. The weather is go...

Re: New satellite rack with naturals all prenested and painted
A while back ,like 5 pages of posts ago I posted pics of my new satellite rack and the gourds I had put up inside the rack. I had some question as to how that would work out. Well as it turns out martins being the master fliers they are, they have easily adjusted and quickly learned to swoop right in...

Re: New arrivals in CENTRAL LOUISIANA. !
So I reported the other day that I thought I might have seen two new strange birds due to their concision as to where they belonged for the night. Today is a nice sunny evening so I thought I would watch close today and see. About dark everyday we let the dog out of his yard to come in and eat and b...

Re: Finally got he Jangly T-14 Installed
Good job whippy looks really good. You oughta think about just leaving the trio man,it’s enlarged and all and raises . Let em squabble . I think you’re gonna have good luck with the new 14 ,what a great “free squirrel” to fall in your lap! Keep us posted on any occupancy of the new 14. For those of ...
