Re: Baby on the ground

Thanks Sharon, that was the best I could do. I let the rack down enough so i could rotate it slow and gentle and look inside different gourds. I put him in one with similar size chicks. I also got a look in about 6-8 others real quick and they all had 4-5 babies each and those all looked close to fle...

Baby on the ground

There’s been a lot of activity with all the fledglings gettin around . They are busy investigating all the gourds that they don’t belong in. Peeking in on the little ones still left to fledge. Yesterday I found a baby on the ground ,looks to be about a week from fledging age. Couldn’t begin to tell ...

Re: CENTRAL LOUISIANA UPDATE

Hello all, well it’s been a flurry of birds. Looks like two nests of five each have fledged two days apart and the yard has been a buzz with flight and fights for gourd access. Sometime over the next week or so I have 12 more nests at least to fledge out. I’m sure just the two nest fledged . As I to...

Re: CENTRAL LOUISIANA UPDATE

And I forgot.....on a second note ,those of you who remember about the fastest Martin in the south “HOT ROD” I had posted earlier in the season about his return as a good looking ASY ,well he made babies and appears to be a very busy dad feeding the chicks! And in his usual form he does all his extr...

45 degrees tonight -worried about babies!

Hey everyone, hope y’all birds are all doing fine. I’m a little concerned about the cold temperatures tonight. It’s supposed to be 45 degrees tonight and I’ve got about 8 nests with new babies. Y’all think they will be ok,that they’ll stay warm enough? I would think so , I guess I’m looking for a lit...

Re: New Member and New PM Follower

Eh jones ,ur welcome. Not to be a kill joy but I’m gonna guess those birds behind the bush hog could have been little small swallows and not martins. Next time you cut look close ,the swallows would have real white bellies and are considerably smaller than the martins. But it does look hopeful due t...

Re: New Member and New PM Follower

Hi jones and welcome . Looks like you have a nice open space there ,that’s what they like! If you already have birds around and looking ,well man that’s fast! There must be someone else around your area with martins also which is a good thing. Sometimes they come see housing and then may actually le...

Re: Starling elimination special forces unit!

That’s right dean,no fly no mo! That’s the same really deep woodpecker gourd I caught all the others in. They don’t mess with any others except that one. The martins won’t go in it for some reason,it may be TOO deep for their liking idk. Check the post about fledglings and pass your thoughts for me,...

Re: Starling elimination special forces unit!

Man talk a bout a really slick starling!!! Yesterday evening close to dark there were six or seven martins circling the yard and another bird fell in formation and began to circle with em . At first I didn’t pay to close attention but I noticed more than usual wing beats and looked closer.....would ...

Hey Dave ,good deal on placing housing for those birds. It’s always cool to see the future results of your efforts! So what I did, and it was last weekend” not really aimed at earth day”. Was......we went catfish jug gin in an old bar pit by the house and as we got around there was about a dozen old...

Re: Starling elimination special forces unit!

Hi lenko, nice to get aquatinted. About your starlings....#1 you should consider a .22. Don’t know your home place situation of out in the country or neighborhood where you can shoot. I can tell you this,if starlings were running out my martins, well”drastic times call for drastic measures” !! #2 no ...

Re: Starling elimination special forces unit!

Hey there Lowe how’s it going for ya this year? Here on my end if you remember last year was my first year for birds with about six pr. This year I have moved up to what I think now is around 12-14 or plus a few singles. I estimate a bird count of mid thirties. Needless to say I pretty happy bout al...

Re: Starling elimination special forces unit!

Thanks SS, that’s four larger ones I had so I made four different ones on one pole that I took a house off of. Tha large horizontal is the second one of those I have. Both of them were instantly chosen when I put em up. I have another gourd gourd rack planned to replace the” tee” for next season and...
