Re: ‘Lil babies out on porches?

Thanks CC ,this is my second year and got six pr. Last year was late getting set up so really for an actual first year “ready” I feel I did well. I read a lot and talk to others, and pretty well knew I was on base with all my assumptions. It’s good to hear we’re on the same page. The ole dude I get m...

Re: ‘Lil babies out on porches?

C.c Hi there ,well there are no mites, blowflies large etc. as well as there ar no other birds on that side of the house. Lil suckers just bail out and wonder around and in and out of the other two holes on that floor . The parents come and go and then you look later and they are back in (four of em)...

Re: My Three Favorite Natural Gourd Styles

Steve I’m like you about the plastic gourds behind so slick inside. That and the cost per each is another reason i’ll stick with the naturals . The martins can readily climb around in those .as soon as they make a space in the nesting material down to the plastic then they just slip around on a slic...

‘Lil babies out on porches?

Question .......on a trio grandpaw I have babies ,maybe 2 weeks old at best that are apparently gettin around good enough to be out walk-in around on the porch! The parents are feeding and taking away excrimate, and they are just walking around outside. I know it’s hot,but is this the norm and I assu...

Re: My Three Favorite Natural Gourd Styles

Coool Steve. I have 22naturals on a chuck abare gourd rack I made. The martins definitely like the gourds better than the trios. I have 40 holes in trios and 22 gourds. 4 out of 6 pr chose the gourds . Since th re is half as many gourds with twice as many chosen over the trios ,isn’t that something ...

Re: Eggs and babies vanishing and dead babies dead

I have a similar problem. I had two nest in one trio. Then I found a baby on the ground . So I went up the ladder and put it back in. Then the next day I noticed strange behavior from the parents, and less feeding occurring. Went up and the baby was dead and found another in a different hole. Removed...

Re: Why do I not have martins

Hi birds, I know I’m not in your area but the thing about your 5 mile neighbor ........do stop in as suggested and visit. Inquire about his gourds and who knows he may even have a few to share!!! Martineers are generally all nice social and willing to share knowledge ,contacts for gourds etc. Who kn...

Re: my neighbor doesn't like my birds

Rain ,sorry to hear about your bird being done that way. IMHO if he’d found the bird in the road I doubt seriously he would have hung it on the pole. That was done on purpose out of defiance against you. He may have disposed of it and politely informed you of his findings, not hung it on the pole. Af...

Houses or gourds??

Ok this is one for all the seasoned landlords. So I have this neighbor three houses down, and I asked him how many babies he’s had fledge out so far. I asked because there has been a whole crowd of what appears to be young birds hanging around here I haven’t seen and aren’t mine. He said he hasn’t fl...

Hello all, looks like everybody’s year is going pretty good so far. Thought I’d put out an update.... so, I’ve had four pair since the get go and had thought I had more. Re: Last arrivals

Hey spider, just last week I noticed the same thing you mentioned about all the regulars flyin around fussing and carrying on. I could tell there looked to be about four “new” to me birds jumping around all over my site like they didn’t know exactly the layout and where they could . All the resident...

Re: Gourds/rain/leaking

Good morning JP, I have a bunch of natural gourds and what I did was......I went autoparts house and got some fuel line like for your lawn mower. Drilled the hole through my gourd just a bit tight to where I had to “twist”the fuel line into the hole and out the other side . I left it sticking out on...
