Re: Any bets on the first arrival southern tip of Texas or Florida ?

Thanks Duit. I had a blast with this pair. It seemed every time she would leave gourd he would be right there and always escorted her back. It seemed a few others would fly around every time she came back to gourd as well. Day babies fledge which was really exciting. It seemed all the Martin's in my...

Re: Any bets on the first arrival southern tip of Texas or Florida ?

Maybe our winter won't be so bad... I'm up here in SW Ontario and have seen tons of Robins and have eastern bluebirds still hanging around. They must know something (I hope). Got my first pair of Martin's this yr and fledged 2. I hope I get more come spring.

Re: pine needles

I've worked over 40 yrs in landscaping field. The round up residual is very fast. All's good with them. I get mine at course that sprays on a regular basis. All chemical will be gone. No worries

Lots of visitors

My first pair this year fledged 2 and have been gone about 2 weeks. Yesterday while in yard I had at least 50 to 60 Martin's flying around my gourds and sitting in power lines by house. Made a big racket and I was dumbfounded. Did not stay night but man that was cool. I hope this is a sign for next ...

Re: An Albino!

Beautiful bird I don't think he or she will breed (infertile). Must be a sight to behold though. Hopefully she stops by here on way down south. Northern birds rock. They work harder and deserve praise. Mine ready to fledge in week or two. First nesting pair ever. After 4 yrs trying. Hopefully they s...

Re: Male feeding female?

I have my first pair too. 4 eggs hatched on July 4 and 5. She is constantly in and out. He checks in every now and then and always escorts her back to gourd everytime she goes out. Chases away any visitors that get too close to his gourd.and brings in food occasionally. Seems to be very good parents...

martins back at Ted's house

Just back from my deceased father in law's old house in McGregor Ontario and low and behold 5 martins were there to greet me. I know Ted is looking down and smiling to see them back.

Re: The March Purple Martin Tsunami Has Begun

these guys are most likely travelling north. you may see more around you but these guys are most likely just passing thru (they may stay a few days but dont be supprised if some all of a sudden up and leave when conditions are favourable further north)

Re: Chicadee Interference

The chickadees here are ok but Ive noticed a tufted titmouse entering my gourd rack. From a distance I thought it was a sparrow so I placed trap on gourd and to my surprise it was a titmouse. are these birds a problem for pm? It seems I have a bumper crop of them but only this one was interested in ...

Bluebirds here. Building nest in brand new bb box. Just waiting for martins and keeping lookout for sparrows or starlings around my gourds and houses. I think i did a real good job of eliminating them this winter ( removed all areas they roosted and got real good using my pellet gun) very few of the...

Re: Very Eager

I also put up an old wooden house I got at a yard sale with sreh entrances. Whoever had this last did an awesome job. If it get...
