Re: One Martin still returning to roost

Toy, suppose so. Feeding will encourage it to stay. Its mixed up enough. One for the books. Wonder how many martins do that once they are roosting?

Re: House/gourd placement in Florida

Hi and welcome! How high is the pool cage? Use the standard of 40 feet from obstructions. If it cant be moved or lowered pick the clearest spot for your house. Some folks have one flyway in and one out, so its not a hard science...attracting them to your site is the hard part. Again welcome,

Re: One Martin still returning to roost

Tom that is strange, the urge to migrate is a strong one; wonder why the heck she/he keeps coming back? looks like your area temps will be in for a change. I hope that Martin takes the hint and heads south for it's own sake.

Re: Texas Hummingbird migration

Thats great, they are fun to watch. Im sure Atilla will survive the onslaught of visiting marauders! Went to the rockport hummingbird festival, they report humdreds (get it?) of hummingbirds in the yards. Good numbers, went there hoping for the best as ours has been at 3. Came home same day and we a...

Re: Texas Hummingbird migration

Thanks Ed. Interesting! I saw one snatching tiny flies near a large tree, he was acting strange and flying up and down in spurts on the leeward side of it. Only through binocs could i see what he was up to. I understand some have been over wintering in north america...Louise Chambers had one or to s...

Re: Texas Hummingbird migration

Yep. Hogging birds. Should be ashamed. Down to one, north winds were blowing for a few days, i think they took advantage of it and left. 4 feeders, bees are happy. Lone hummer is too.

Re: Assessment of my yard

Its difficult to post pictures. Ok, from the view looks like you have room. If those trees in the back are yours id trim branches back or cut one or two out looks like mature pines? Just to the left looks to be a small tree? Consider cutting it out cuz it will encroach. Dont worry about the fences o...

Re: Strange

Iv looked at a few hummingbird websites but they arent as user friendly as ours to ask. Afraid i dont know, maybe the warm weather is keeping them north? Im going to the rockport hummingbird festival next month, will see what they all say.

Re: Texas Landlords. How Many Years Did You Wait For That First Pair

Bird brain, waited one year here in Corpus. Like you less than ideal conditions have a tree (an ash) in the neighbors yard about 30 feet away. They dont mind and the hawks do not use it for launching attacks. Iv plans to put up a rack in the front to compensate. I found out my neighbor had martins 3...
