Re: Hawk on the Hunt.

Im dreading that, last year we lost 3 or 4 martins to accipeter hawks. I know they are coming, large flocks of red wing blackbirds have decided to take up residence in some nearby oaks and i fear they will draw them in. Last week a small hawk made a flyby, martins spotted it and harrassed it off. My...

Re: The Lewis Mod

I have two conley entrances adjusted to the lewis mod, starlings do come by and take off. Iv used the WEPS over crescents in natural and plastic gourds as well. Have had zero issues thus far. A starling pair has started to come by but look and leave, an ASY male chased one off yesterday. I sleep wel...

Re: Are most landlords #s low

Just my 2 cents, Have good numbers here in corpus an increase of 10 pairs. Visitors come in almost every night, large groups of sub adults now. The martins arrived 10 days early this year. Neighboring martin houses look good, more than last year...BUT our satelite site continues to lack martins and ...

Re: Vacancy light is On.

You will get more birds, a few weeks ago I walked west guth park almost every day, saw lots of martins. The colony on the south west side is an old one but her bird numbers are down over the years for various reasons...i trust and hope they will head your way. gourds are the way to go.

Re: Vacancy light is On.

Hey duke, Do the same, alternate sit in the front and watch as much as possible, the residents have been coaxing in large numbers of passers by, had huge numbers of martins absolutely flood in last few days. Have 19 (full now) pairs and the residents quickly enter and guard against intruders, the on...

Re: Female Purple Martins Collecting Mud

Steve thats interesting! Thanks. When i first started i did just about everything to attract them, including putting thin mud dams inside the cavities...after they accepted the cavities the females woud come out with the dried cumps of the mud and drop them from the porches, i realised then that the...

Re: Let The Fun Begin!

Kyler,
Great news! It seems to be more of a celebration when you are out working on their homes and they arrive, sometimes i think they are as excited as we are to see them.
Good looking set up, hope it fills for you.
Stay safe and wish you a great martin season!

Re: Texas Arrivals

Whippy, lots of what i think are SY birds arrived (they went into occupied gourds, were allowed to stay) last few days cold front stalled them, but it was short lived. Had 6 new birds come in looking for homes, females stuck around most of the males may have moved on, will see tonight. I have one un...

Re: Texas Arrivals

Whippy, Good numbers! Hope your regulars made it. Have good numbers here, first 4 arrived on feb 10, 8 days early. Kept that number for a few weeks, females started arriving with some new males, with unoccupied gourds it was hard to keep track because they kept switching gourds and claiming 2 caviti...

Re: Modified Super Gourd Using Old Friend Dap

Wow Terry that was a thick (accurate!) Substandard martin house Description! I have added porches with 3 inch pvc tunnels to a few supergourds as well but didnt roughen up the surface, think ill do some adjustments like yours looks solid! I roughen up the inside of the weps over the crescents, didnt...
