Re: Refurbishing Trio – Graphic Photo Warning

Great job on the house. It looks very good and I'll bet works even better. I hope you are able to straighten the pole. I figure all you gotta do is dig out around the base, push it straight, and secure with fast drying concrete. But I bet you already have a plan in place for that. I like to hear mys...

Re: Good season

Duke, That is a real cool configuration. I hadn't thought about something like that. It looks real good =with the condo on top and the circle of gourds underneath. I may do that next year. I was going to add only four gourds to my T-14 but now I see I can get and additional circle around the bottom ...

Re: Illuminating a scarecrow to ward off owls.

I've done motion detector lights on top of poles, scarecrows, bird spikes, radio noise, flood lights shining on the houses and gourds, and wire cages. Nothing works well for me. Barred owls are usually the problem but last season it was the great horned owl. Dave From a previous post Thanks for put...

Re: Illuminating a scarecrow to ward off owls.

Heres what one looks like when it's lit up. Be aware the game camera also has infrared illuminating the photo but you can see the cone of light the portable fixture puts out and how bright it is if it were to hit you in the face.

Re: Illuminating a scarecrow to ward off owls.

Brent, I put these on my game feeders at the ranch. They charge up all day with the solar panel and they are motion sensors as well. You can put these up on your housing to charge all day and when the owl comes in they'll light up and scare him off. Not a bad deal for less than $40.00. Mine are almo...

Re: Illuminating a scarecrow to ward off owls.

Brent, Since the martins go in before dark I don't think they would mind or even know you have an illuminated scare crow outside. I've seen a video where the landlord has sensors and when the owl came in it would trigger lights to come on. If you have the scarecrow illuminated and the lights are not...

Re: Was watching my Martins come in tonight...

Hey Whip, How is your Hawk situation? I was watching my birds tonight (3 pair hanging around my house) around 6:45pm and a damn Hawk swooped in out of nowhere and I believe got one of my birds. It happened so fast I couldn’t believe my eyes. Now my birds have left. Hope they come back. T-Bird T- I ...

Pictures (Jpegs) are easiest to post when they are in the 200kb or less range and must have text in the message body for them to post.

Re: Posting Video

BBee, I don't think you can post videos here. Most videos I've seen have been links to youtube or something of that nature. Forums such of these do have an expense and to keep the costs manageable there are restrictions to the amount of data that can be processed. I don't know first hand about this ...

Re: Making Sure

GL, I don't have any personal experience with the two together however, I have read here that there can be some pretty fierce competition between the two. I hope someone with the experience I don't have will add to this. I do know they like to move the tree swallows away from the martins. There is a...

Re: Bouncing back in Texas

Correction: more males are born compared to females. But 80% shouldn't last. Gotcha. It appears I have a couple new ASY males this morning. They are easy to pick out since they are the ones preening and scratching as well as popping back and forth between the gourd rack and the T-14 and Trio set up...

Re: Bouncing back in Texas

That's great news, G. I am also receiving more birds. I don't have an exact count in the evening as they all come in so fast and in small groups. My hawk issue has gone away, not sure how, but the big male Coopers doesn't come here any more. Just a few minutes ago I sat outside with my coffee and ob...

Re: Lit up scarecrow to dissuade owls question.

Brent, I don't have experience with owls but it makes sense to give it a try. You may not even have to put a light on it as owls can see pretty good in the dark. I'd park the scare crow right under the rack and let it blow in the wind. Then move him to a slightly different position the next night. M...

Re: Altering gourds

Real Human? My wife might have issues with that. Adding a predator guard is a great idea and, looks like you're in the country a bit, so adding it should be mandatory. Not sure what kind of snakes you have in the area but snake netting might not be a bad idea either. If the martins are not usi...

Looking good except those round holes. The day a starling shows up you’ll be as surprised as I was. Never saw a starling out here ever then one day two land on the gourd rack I was in shock. I see you have the simple plug and switch tunnels so you’re all prepared. Enjoy the birds! Yep. 6 ye...

Re: My Jangles T-14 and my Trio getting some love this week

Love your TW-12 Trio Wade. In the world of Trio/Nature House fandom - the TW-12 is a real trophy, due in large part to it being the namesake of the great Jesse Wade. Thanks, Matt. I rescued it from across the alley last year. It hasn';t been taken care of in 6 years or so. I brought it over to my y...

Re: My Jangles T-14 and my Trio getting some love this week

Nice set up Whippy, glad to hear your houses are starting to get some action. I have noticed when a few birds show interest in a new house it starts drawing more and more attention from others. It's been a whirlwind of activity here this week. Last Thursday before Easter weekend was the last day I ...

My Jangles T-14 and my Trio getting some love this week

Thought I'd share this update. For those who don't know I acquired the Trio from my neighbor last year and Jangles was kind enough to give me this T-14 he built. These are in addition to my gourd rack which is 50 feet away but in direct line of sight. Notice the Martin flying in the back ground? I m...

Laura,

I have some of those doors with crescent entrances for the trio. I am not using them. Will be happy to send you a few to try this season if you like. Send me your address via e-mail and I'll get them out to you.

I am happy to help.

Re: Altering gourds

Hobbie, That is one of the nicest gourd racks I have seen. Absolute pure coolness. If you were to do any modifications I would recommend putting tunnels on the S&K gourds you have. S&K has tunnels that go on them very easily. I use those same gourds with tunnels and they get used up every year. The ...
