Re: Nests with eggs abandoned

Number1 get rid of your house sparrow's and that will more than likely solve your problem, ripping out Hosp nest rages the sparrow's and they'll very likely go on a rampage and torment who they think did it....(the martins) martins have white eggs so whatever is laying brown eggs isn't a martin.

Re: Dawnsong Vocalization

We are just a little south of you (Sugarcreek) and have approximately 70 active nests with a lot of eggs, "Not all nest yet" and ours are out at 4 - 4:30 each morning. So i would think yours will start anytime now or once the eggs are in the nest.

Re: Three Photos Of Some Of My Gourd Racks

Steve

What a great setup for martins always enjoy reading and looking at your pic's. Question do you not have starlings in your area and why not go with Starling resistant entrance holes ? Or are all your martins trained on round holes....Sorry if someone asked before.

Re: SNOW....!

I managed to train mine to supplemental feed really Glad we took the time to do it, they now come down right in front of the house and eat out of a tray as for me its always nerve racking when cold weather comes and it sticks around for a couple days because that third day they get really hungry. I ...

Re: Why do I not have martins

Those pine trees look pretty close. Please Don't give up yet as SY subbies are just starting to migrate to and through the Midwest. One interesting book you should consider reading is "A Purple Martin Journey" Its a book written by Andrew Troyer of Troyer's Bird paradise...So much common sense in it...

Your Martins will resist going into new holes once the new ones are installed but they will adapt and you will have less to worry about as far as starlings are concerned
