Re: Are gourds a good alternative for Tree Swallows?

I agree with the previous persons in that ts will imprint on Martin gourds. I had too run them off when I was first was trying too get martins. I used Martin bluebird ts protocol. The bluebirds understand but ts don't.I have a bb box 25 feet from Martin pole. The tree swallows won't go to it. They s...

Re: protection from coopers hawks

I put a 1 eighth inch thick plate on entrance hole when I made the house sparrow resistant hole. That took care of the house sparrows, but this helped the raccoon easily reach downward into nest. A thicker plate could help. No bluebirds or tree swallows on this farm for 2 years now. I don't have thi...

Re: protection from coopers hawks

It had to be a coopers hawk. I saw him killing a dove on the lane 1 day back in the winter. A raccoon couldn't get his paw in house sparrow resistant hole. The farmer at his house has seen him at his bird feeder. I have to put up a sign only kill house sparrows.

tree swallows

7/8 inch by 2 1/4 inch entrance hole for tree swallows will keep out house sparrows much like the sreh for martins.the only thing is b.b. can't get in. I have 2 b.b. boxes with in 25 ft. of my Martin pole.I think both boxes would have to be hsreh. The tree swallow wouldn't nest within 15 ft. of each...

We don't have a pond here. The overflow seemed to come here because I didn't increase very fast up the road. The...
