This martin roost was detected by NEXRAD Radar in 2004, but has not been documented by an on-the-ground visit. You can help with Project MartinRoost by finding this roost and submitting a report here.

Keep several things in mind as you search for the roost:

• The coordinates are for the approximate location of the radar image ring that suggests a martin roost is in the vicinity.
• The vicinity could actually be quite large, so one should plan on searching 10, 15 or more miles out from the coordinates.
• The roost is most likely associated with a water body, on a brushy island, in a reed bed or perhaps at a bridge, but
• Roosts also may be located in trees in urban and suburban areas, even in heavily commercialized areas.
• Roosts can start forming in June and can be active well into September. July and August are peak months.
• Someone, somewhere, surely knows about this roost, even if they do not realize its significance. Asking people at nature centers, bird clubs, and parks and wildlife departments if they know of a martin roost might produce useful leads.
• The radar images examined were from the 2004 season; it is possible that a roost was present in 2004, but not in later years.
• Although we have a lot of confidence that these radar image rings indicate martin roosts, it is possible that some do not.

Good luck searching for and documenting the roost. If you search for, but do not find the roost, please submit a report anyway. Just fill out what you know (e.g., where the roost is not) portions of the report form.
