- This year we have 15 nesting pairs. As of 6/13/09 we have 18 eggs still and 14 young in 7 nests. We do regular nest checks all season until the young are too old to bother. I am retired and have time to mentor if you need help. Please e-mail if you have a need.

- Can help anyone in or around the Tulsa area. 2009 will be my 4th nesting season and last year I had 8 pairs. My colony consists of modified Nature House (trio) martin houses with gourds. My gourds are natural and plastic. All my entrances are SREH.

- In 2006 we put up our first martin 12 room housing unit. We were amazed at our luck as we had one pair to lay eggs and hatch 4 eggs. Last year (2007) we had 3 pair nest with 2 pair raising their young. This year (2008) we put up an additional S&K Barn. So far this year, we have had one pair to return and hopefully more will come. Our martin site just seems to keep growing. Doing nest checks on our martins is so enlightening and enjoyable. We Love working in our garden and backyard and listening to the martins singing and clucking. If we can help anyone with anything, just email us and we will more than happy to help!

- I currently have a Trio Castle, modified; a Coates Waters Edge; Supergourds. I have been around colonies my whole life, and have been a landlord personally for 7 years and seen just about everything that can go right or wrong for colonies in this area. If you are having trouble attracting martins to your site or have had problems with an established site, contact me and I will help if I can.

- My 6th year, last year had 16 successful nests in 30 compartments offered, pretty typical occupancy. I started with trio houses, bought Supergourds and Heritage metal house since. Have tried feeding, trapping sparrows and starlings, PM dawn song, with both successes and failures, all of them very memorable. Happy to visit, advise. It's a fun hobby, except for the time I have spent correcting my mistakes, which I would hope to help others avoid.

- We have annual seminars at the garden center at the time of the scout arrival. We have question and answer time after the seminars where both active and nonactive landlords give tips on how to be better landlords and how to attract Purple Martins to your own property. We have printed information sheets available from the Purple Martin Conservation through out the year.

- Just moved and have 2 acres. I think we have a great spot that is fairly open and next to a vegetable garden site. We do have quite a few trees in the yard, but not extremely close to this area. Just bought a house yesterday at the home and gardent show. Really excited about the prospect of getting Martins started at my home! Have wanted to do this for years, but did not have the location for it previously. Would welcome any tips on this, especially when to open the house, i.e. when do the younger Martins usually hit this area.

- WANT to be landlord. 4/19/08 put up 12 rm plastic white 2 flr hse & converted into 6 rm hse (lrgr rms) stands 15\' tall on retractable metal tri-pole. Many birds in back yard: sparrows starlings blue jays cardinals finches wrens crows doves wood pecker & black birds as main activity. Never seen these birds on Martin hse except for male sparrow trying to nest & couple of times a starling early May 08. I shot the sparrow cleaned the hse & scared away starling. Haven’t seen this type of activity since. I make it a point to shoot any & all starlings & sparrows when possible. Seen subadults 5/12-18/08 in immediate area & on house. No tenants. NEED help!

- I have three house up and only have one pair with 4 babies.
This is my first year to have nesting Martins. I had three pair
early in Spring but only one pair stayed and nested. I have Starling
Resistent House so the only other birds are Sparrows and I have keeped the nests clean out of Sparrows. Why did the other Martins leave? If someone could help I would like to know, so I can prevent it from happening in the future.
Thanks
Bill

- This is our first year as land lords. We have been trying to attract Martins for about 4 weeks now. We have only had Sparrows. We lowered the houses, took out the beginings of Sparrow nests, then raise the houses again. This appeared to work as we got our first two pairs of Martins just the day after that. But then Sparrows came to the houses again, and the Martins seem to have left. We have been playing the "Dawn Song" each morning, and we have Purple Martin decoys on the houses. We can see the Martins hunting in our area, as neighbors have established coloneys. But I get the impression that they just put their houses up, and got birds. They got lucky and don't really watch to see what's living in the houses they put up. We on the other hand want Martins, and we want to be good landlords. We have housing for 48 pairs of birds right now...and all appartments are empty. What are we doing wrong?

- I enjoyed having martins nested in the martin house when I lived in Denton, Tx I moved to Amarillo/Canyon Tx. Put up the martin house up in the spring of 2001 no Martins then the starling moved in so I put excluder doors to stop the starlings from nesting.
I saw a martin land on the house the 6-1-2005 I went nuts with joy this is a good day!!! There's one active martins colony in this town and two more colonies fifteen miles away they both have the Trio square martin house I have the castle 24 room Should I put up the same kind? And how far apart should they be?

- First timer- Built my own martin house with 12 holes- seen 1 martin checking out the house tuesday the 29th, as of today no martins have been back. The sparrows have been there every morning, trying to get rid of them. Maybe within the next week martins will arrive.

- We are currently (today) putting up a purple martin house on the dock of our small pond. We would like to learn more than we already have on the net. One question we have: is this the right time to put up the martin house? Thanks for offering to connect people up who are interested in pm's.

- Brand new at this. I saw a scout atop my Martin House Friday, March 19th, 2004, but only saw the one. Have lowered house and cleaned, (three house sparrow nests and two starlings), plugged holes and waiting till I see Martins atop the Martin House again. When Martins come, how long will they hang around my Martin House waiting for me to remove plugs? Do I remove all plugs or just a few at a time, and if so which ones first? I have a twelve compartment house, (two level, six each side). What is the best method to keep the House Sparrows and Starlings out of the Martin House? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

- We put our house up for the first time last year and had 8 pairs or at least 8 nests and 43 eggs. We counted 14 babies, then we were afraid to check after that. I think we had Martins around the house a couple of weeks ago, but have just noted 4-5 birds on the house this morning. Need some guidance for this year because we are green and had great luck last year, want to be more intelligent about all this, this year. Thanks.

- I have no colony, just a 12 room empty house which I've cleaned out the other bird nests and plugged with Styrofoam cups until the spring. Hope to attract birds next spring. Would appreciate help in providing the day I should open. I have read most of the info online plus some other literature from my house manufacturer and the library. Thanks.
