When hanging gourds under a Trio house (or any house with guard rails), it is easier to install an owl guard if you (re)drill the hanging holes so that when the gourd is hung, the entrance hole faces the direction in which the guard rail points. An owl guard (curved metal rod) can then be attached to the guard rail by way of a few 1" hose clamps, and it will curve out over the entrance hole of the gourd.
