While sitting on my front porch enjoying the beauty of fall foliage, noticed the blue birds are still visiting the blue bird house attached to a beautiful sweet gum tree. Sure makes me feel encouraged that perhaps they will forget about the martin houses next spring.

Delma, I sincerely wish you the best of birding seasons in 2010, and hope martins find your place soon. But for now, I am thrilled to hear you are enjoying *your* bluebirds.

Those bluebirds are so pretty and delightful. If you want to enjoy a special treat for them, offer a birdbath. Bluebirds absolutely LOVE their baths even during the cold days of winter. If you do not have or cannot afford a birdbath, try placing a terra cotta, or plastic plant tray on the ground and make sure you keep it filled with water...........If you have to use a plastic plant tray, place a couple of rocks inside so it does not blow away.

If you have a real birdbath, try placing it where you can easily keep it filled and watch it during your afternoon bird watching event. Our bluebirds show up about 3:00-4:00 and have a ball in the baths each and every day. It is so amusing to watch them, and the bath provides some free bird watching fun.
