Van Ert Nest Box Trap Placement

Postby Bird Brain » Sun Feb 25, 2018 11:47 am

I must remove traps from gourds in case martins arrive. I bought a Van Ert nest box trap but I'm not sure where to place it. Currently, it is hanging at the top of a 6 foot privacy fence between my martin and bluebird housing. I'm not sure this is the best place. I like this trap because the entrance hole is 1 1/4 inch diameter and doesn't allow bluebirds to enter. I would like to hear from experienced Van Ert trap veterans about placement. Thanks ... ocus=false

I have mine on a pole the same height as my Martin houses. Sounds like your only concern is catching Sparrows & the Martins can't enter anyway.

I use mine for Starlings I catch bluebirds & Sparrows. As long as you check it daily, it's all good.

I have only caught one sub adult Martin in the last 4 years. I really, really like this trap!
