Glad that one of your birds have returned home!
Have a good year.

Hi Doug,
Congratulations on your first arrivals.
We know that you will take care of them if the weather turns bad.
Hope you have another good year!

Re: Where can I order crickets from?
Hi HunterH, Toy is giving you good information. By placing the crickets in sandwich bags, say 100 in a bag, then you have a good idea how many you fed them. It may help in ordering crickets the following year, etc. If you have other martin landlords around that want crickets, I would suggest orderin...

The gourds look good Sharon. Hopefully these will bring in the nesting pairs.
Good luck this year!

Re: New Look
Hi Guys,
We're all in the same boat here!
Donnie, it's similar to us trying to get martins, don't give up!
We'll get use to it. I know that old dogs can learn new tricks, so by spring, we'll be ready to go!

Re: Nice new forum look!
To all,
So far, the new website looks good! Like it was stated, it will take some time to get used to. Yes, a lot of work has gone into the new look and we appreciate it very much.

It sounds as if you can get into your profile successfully, so enter the existing email and password. Once you do that, it may be possible to change your current email address to the correct one, then put in a new password as well. If that doesn't work, you may have to call into the PMCA on Tuesday ...

Hi Dave, Thanks to you and the Iowa Purple Martin Organization members for a job well done! Also, I would imagine that a lot of the Informational Pamphlets were from the PMCA, so thanks to all of their good work as well. It's a public service to educate the public about Purple Martins and current Mo...

There was a fantastic purple martin display on Friday night. It was a beautiful evening with about 60 people on board the Bodacious to enjoy the largest display of martins all season. Estimates by Allen Jackson and Andrew Troyer put the numbers up around the 750,000 to one million birds. It was spec...

Toy, I give you credit for hanging in there, year in and year out, just seeming to keep the same number of pairs. Most landlords will see nice increases in their colonies after a couple of years, but the environment around you seems to be a detriment for increasing your colony size. Hopefully one of...

Bill, I think Toy summarized it quite well! Toy, glad to hear that you are having so many visitors! Hopefully they come back to your site next year and increase your number of pairs. Are you still experiencing a low bug population? It seems that with the dry spell we have been having, the number of ...

Kehunter, Once they fledge, your job is pretty much done. Although you will want to still walk around your colony and check for any feathers or other signs of a possible owl problem. The young will return for several weeks, and sometimes some of them will sit outside the gourds or cavities for the n...

Jerry, if you can't find the jumpers, hopefully they can make it through the night and the martins will find them in the morning. Look at this as a learning experience. Sometimes you have a choice, to lower the house and possibly have a bird or two fledge, or not do the nest check and lose a lot mor...
