Re: Start a new adult arrival report ?
Excellent question. There is no need to do a new scout report for when your colony starts to rebuild after the winter storm. The study deals only with first arrivals. We're conducting separate studies examining the effects of winter storms on martin survival. However, submitting such dates for those...

Re: Question about "heat index"
since martins cool themselves by panting (which works via evaporative cooling), higher humidity levels can exacerbate the effects of extreme heat. so, yes it affects them. but, since they don't sweat, they don't feel it effects of high humidity quite like we do.

Re: SY Male?
Sometimes the tiebreaker in ID'ing these darker ASY females from SY males is the "croak call" that's only done by males.
https://www.purplemartin.org/purple-mar ... lizations/
The sound file is at the bottom. It's the male call with the clicking sound at the end.

Glynn. We're sorry for the frustration that you're feeling. Since the 2015 redesign, we have spent countless hours streamlining the user experience. There are certainly more changes that can be made and that are being planned. Unfortunately, as a non-profit, our funding is limited. To put it frankly...

Re: Scout Arrival Study Question
We're aware of the problem with the maps and we're working on resolving it with our web developer. Unfortunately, Google has changed the process for encoding maps right when we need it the most! Submitted scout reports are still being received on our end despite any error messages. It should be squa...

Re: Off season projects Venting gourds.
Our internal small scale testing showed that the addition of a elbow vent in the neck of a gourd decreased the internal temperature difference by approx 50%. In other words a vent eliminated half of the heat built up in an artificial gourd. The PMCA will be expanding the study to a larger scale in t...

Checked the radar from today. It's not very big, but it's NW of town. Point not exact, but should get you close enough to see the birds flying in.

Rest assured any reports submitted between the last map update and present are properly recorded in the database, just not displayed properly. When fully functional, we will be u...

Re: Project Martinwatch
Yikes is the correct response. Regarding nest checks greater than 7 days apart: It's worth sending it in to us. A closer look at the data will help us determine if some or all of the data is usable. The nest check frequency has some gray area, but the final nest check requirement does not. Got it. ....
