Re: New to purple martins
One of the best things to do would be, back up a few pages on this forum and read. The farther you back up in time page wise the more you will learn. Then start asking questions. Nice to allways see new people getting in the game. Best of luck. Mike.

Re: Anyone have an explanation?!
Totally good advise above. What Whippy says about sparrows is all true, they are very evasive and will watch for you from a long way off. I use to control them by shooting but now have repeating sparrow traps that do the job. Since useing the traps I now have other species comeing to my yard. Most n...

Martins drinking.
Hi All, wondering if anybody ever sees martins drinking from a water source to small to drink from while on the fly? I've watched martins gather mud from around mud holes but can't remember seeing them drink except on the fly. Dont know if they can drink when not flying. Have read about them drinkin...

Re: THOUGHTS ABOUT ROOSTS & FALL MIGRATION==TX
Hi John, good hearing from you and thanks for the good info on the roost migrations. Most all my martins are I guess gathered with the big roost in Round Rock about 30 miles away. Had been getting 50 to 100 visitors around midday but that slowed down just a few days ago. Now the visits are much earl...

Re: Central Texas Martin Rehab/Sanctuary??
Hi Sky, sorry about your bird. There will allways be little bits of heartbreak with all the joy and rewards of hosting martins. Sometimes the parents will discard babies that they know have a deformity. It's their way. If their old enough its allways best to put them in their original nest, if not p...

Long season for central texas
Still have a lot of martins in their nests but way more than half have fledged. Nest checking on the 22nd found 2 clutches still hatching out, and 19 nests with 79 babies that are less than 10 days old. Hope the weather holds out and we stay away from the 100 plus temps for a few more weeks. Would l...

Re: 15 eggs on ground in 3 days
That many in one area would make me say starling. Seams like they get a little more aggressive this time in the season exspecially if you have few vacancies. Watched one empty out a nest and a half in less than a minuet. Every time i think I've got em all here comes one or two more. Thats my take on...
