Re: Advice please, I don't know what to try next.

Duffie: I had a couple persistent older male sparrows early on like this. What worked for me was closing off the cavity, then re-opening with a little of his nesting material sticking out the door. Leave trap in when closing so u wont have to take it in and out. If your trap won't work try a mouse t...

Re: I wonder why the flurry

Diane, I had 4 fledge this past week, 1 on thurs and the other 3 Friday and I watched the parents with bugs in their mouths coax the three friday out of the gourd onto the porch and they flew just like Mark explained. It was so cool to watch. Tomorrow my wife and I will be taking the boat out so I n...

black mold treatment?

I have had 2 SY couples successfully raise families to fledge my first year 2020. Currently I have what seems to be the start of black mold on the bottom floor in 2 cavities of my Martin house. Does anyone know of a remedy that is safe for Martins who visit the rest of this season? I thought maybe B...

Re: Digging near waters edge

If you jet water pressure to sink the pole, it would not matter if you where on the edge of the lake or 5 ft into the lake. my houses sit atop of 10 inch marine pilings that where jetted using a trash pump and a 3" pipe on one end tapered down to about 1/2". alot of water pressure you simply go arou...

Re: to nest check or not to nest check - old babies

I will do a final nest check tomorrow on my #2 gourd. The chicks are 20-21 days old.Its been easy for me so far. A few hiccups along the way, and worries being my 1st year as a landlord. Most setups must be lowered. Mine must be rotated to index 3 cavities at a time. I check only 1 gourd now, 2 when...
